“No way,” Tabitha murmurs.

My face burns and my eyes water from sheer embarrassment. I cup my cheeks and shake my head as I back away. “No, he’s right,” I mutter. “We’re through.”

Milo fiddles with his glasses as he pivots between me and Parker. “Guys, I know you don’t have everything in common, but that doesn’t mean...”

He doesn’t finish the sentence. He’s as dumbfounded as everyone else.

We wanted this relationship to be believable so we could infiltrate Lewis and Yvette’s relationship. But, evidently, we did too good a job.

I look around everyone, and I’m officially done. It was fine to pretend when I had Parker by my side. There’s no way I’m faking my way through a break up when I won’t have him around anymore.

I huff and back away from the group. “I gotta get out of here.”

“I don’t blame you,” Tabitha says, glaring at Parker. “You shouldn’t be forced to be around him anymore.”

“No, Kylie, I can still take you home,” Parker says.

“You can’t make her get in the car with you after you dumped her,” Tabitha says, aggression heating her words.

“But I’m taking Lewis home,” he replies. “He’s right next door.”

His eyebrows lift, as if there’s a hint I’m not taking. But I get it. It’s my time to strike with Lewis.

I just can’t right now.

I link my arm with Tabitha. “I’m exhausted. I need to go home.”

Jamie snaps her fingers at Kai. “Gimme your keys. Me and the girls are gonna go home now, you guys can pack up everything.”

Kai hands her the keys. “Since when weren’t you part of the guys?”

“Since there’s girls who need me,” Jamie replies. She turns to us. “Shall we?”

Tabitha hugs an arm around me. “Come on. Let’s get our bags and go.”

As we step away, Parker takes a few steps closer. “Kylie, I...”

Tabitha steps in front of me. “Can you leave her alone?”

Parker huffs. “I still want to know she’s okay.”

Tabitha turns me away, telling Parker, “You don’t get it both ways.”

“Dude, just give her some space,” Jamie says, following Tabitha and me to our tents.

With our packed bags, the three of us escape into Kai’s car, and Jamie zooms away from the campsite.

“What the heck was that?” Jamie asks with a sigh. “If anyone was going to break up, I didn’t think...”

I cut her off. “I don’t want to talk about it.”

Tabitha leans forward from the backseat. “But it just doesn’t make any sense.”

I cup a hand around my eyes as they water. “Yes, it does,” I croak.

Jamie double takes from the driver’s seat. “What does that mean?”

When a tear drops, my shoulders shake, and it’s impossible to keep the sobs at bay. “He likes Yvette,” I say in a garbled mess.
