Parker lifts his hands in defense. “I already promised Jamie I’d make more of an effort with him. It’ll be much easier if you’re with me to do the heavy lifting.”

I wave Milo over, who gives me an apprehensive smile.

I pat the tote bag. “Making friends is easy when you have baked goods.”

“Do you want to pass them over, sweetie pie?”

I recoil. “Sweetie pie?”

He shrugs, laughing. “I was trying another nickname. You don’t like when I call you Kikki. I thought sweetie pie would be cute because you bake sweet things; including pie.”

I lift a hand to stop his ramble. “How about you stop with the nicknames?”

“Can’t do, Kikki Green.”

“Ugh.” I push the tote bag closer to him. “You’re impossible.”

He laughs, pulling out the Tupperware container. “You love it.”

“You know I don’t.”

“Hi,” Milo says, somewhat alarmed as he joins us. “What’s up?”

I pull the Tupperware away from Parker. “I was wondering if you were also hungry?”

“Wow, you baked for the trip?” Milo asks, impressed.

“She bakes for every occasion,” Parker answers for me.

I nod, lifting off the lid. “It’s true.”

“Ahem,” Parker blurts, leaning across me to snag a cupcake. “Doesn’t your boyfriend get first pick?”

I flash him a fake smile. “Of course, honey bunny.”

He chokes on a mouthful of cupcake. He pounds on his chest, forcing it down his throat. “Okay,” he says hoarsely. “I see what you mean about the nicknames.”

Milo looks between us like he’s solving a riddle. “How long have you two been dating?”

“Not long,” I mumble, pinching a snickerdoodle.

“It took a lot of convincing and chatting in and between classes,” Parker adds.

Milo breaks a cookie in half. “You two seem really close, but I was asking Jamie about you because I’ve never seen you guys hang out. She said she hadn’t either.” He shrugs. “It just seemed weird because she’s friends with one of you and works with the other.”

“It was on the down low,” Parker replies. “You know what it’s like.”

Milo exhales slowly, slouching. “True.”

“Are you and Jamie still good?” I ask.

A giddy smile sweeps across Milo’s face. “Really good.” He takes a bite of the snickerdoodle and his eyes light up. “Oh crap. These are crazy good.”

I blush. “Thanks.”

Milo gestures at the cliff. “You left me so stunned when you jumped. I can’t believe you did it.”

“Me either,” I admit.
