“But you were both single then.”

“Kylie, it’s cool.”

I’m not so certain. Whatever happens, I need to make sure these boys remain friends.

On the way home, Parker continues to chuckle over Yvette lusting after him and his best friend’s jealousy. I can’t believe this scheme is actually working.

Could Yvette already be thinking of breaking up with Lewis? If she wants Parker, I’m more than happy to hand him over.

When he pulls up in my driveway, Parker asks, “What are you wearing tonight?”

“To Alto Burgers?” I ask, confused. “I dunno, like a T-shirt and denim shorts.”

His eyebrow raises. “On a date?”

“It’s a burger place.”

“But you’re going up against Yvette.”

I sink in the seat. “Oh right, Victoria Falls Barbie.”

He pats my arm. “Wear a dress.”

“I don’t want to stand out. It’s a pretty casual place.”

“You need to stand out. You’re getting Lewis’s attention, right?”

“What are you wearing?”

He smirks. “A T-shirt and jeans.”

I scoff, folding my arms.

He shrugs. “It’s different for guys. Besides, I’ve clearly gotten Yvie’s attention. Tonight you need to work a little magic.”

I huff. “Can’t baking be enough?”

“I got in Yvie’s head during the car ride this morning. She knows Lewis loves your baking. Now, get him drooling over how you look, and you’ll steal his attention from her.”

My skin chills with uncertainty. “How do you always make things sound so simple?”

He chucks my chin. “You gotta have faith, Green. Optimism always wins out.”

I exhale slowly, opening the car door. “Okay. I’ll try to get it together.”
