I huffed out a laugh, looking up into his eyes. “We’re gonna have a baby.”
He crushed his lips to mine as his hand snaked around my back and pulled me closer. Tears streamed down my face, which I ultimately chalked up to baby hormones, but deep down I knew differently.
I sucked in a breath as he pulled back just enough to stare into my eyes. “I’m gonna marry you.”
“Yeah?” I grinned.
His thumb brushed an errant tear, and a smile broke out on his face. “That’s a yes. You can’t take it back.”
“Who says I want to?”
“Good,” he grinned even wider. He leaned in to kiss me again, then jerked back. “Uh…you should probably see what you’re in for first. Not that I’ll allow you to take it back. You already said yes.”
“Technically, it was a question.”
“But you still saidyeah.That’s the same thing.”
I threaded my fingers through the hair at the nape of his neck and pulled him against my lips. “The answer will always be yes.”

Laura was still blushingfrom our earlier exploits. We may have been caught screwing on her bed, but that wasn’t my fault. She was being too loud, and we inevitably got caught when the nurse rushed in, thinking she was having a seizure or something. Was it really my fault that she was being so loud?
Okay, I may have grinned when the nurse turned and ran into the door, but that was purely because it was hilarious.
“So, this is it?” Laura asked, staring at the building. “This is where you run all your operations out of?”
I’d done a little explaining on the way over. It was cute to hear her call them operations as if she had any clue what they entailed. “Yeah, this is it. Well, on the surface.”
I led her to the elevator and pressed the button, waiting for it to scan my thumbprint. She watched me curiously, her eyebrows shooting up as the light moved up and down, scanning me into the system.
“Pretty cool, right?”
“This is like something out ofMission Impossible.”
I grunted at the comment. “Tom wishes he was as cool as us.”
I pressed my hand to the small of her back and guided her inside,grinning as I went through all the other measures that would take us to the lower levels.
“So, you said you’re in the IT department. What exactly does that mean?”
“I run the operations out of here. Sometimes, that includes keeping an eye on the teams in the field. Other times, I get to do cooler stuff, like hacking into systems.”
“You do that?” she asked, her gaze shooting to meet mine. “That’s so cool.”
“I know.”
You couldn’t wipe the smile off my face if you tried. Not only did I finally have her by my side, but she now knew the real me, which was the best feeling in the world.
The doors opened, and the chaos of the third floor filtered around us. Screens on the walls showed updates on current operations, along with vital statistics of those out on the job. I watched her carefully, waiting for her to freak out, but that wasn’t happening so far. She took it all in, not really giving away anything.
“You’re late!”
I turned and faced off with Rae, who was walking toward me with her usual loathing for me. She didn’t really hate me. We just had a special kind of love/hate relationship where she constantly berated me and I let her think she was the best. It worked for us.
“Yes, because I was with Laura at the hospital.”
