Clenching my jaw, I give Hammer one final warning. “We’ll deal with this later. The prospects just arrived and I don’t have time for this petty bullshit.”

Hammer raises his brows and sneers, “Oh? Maybe you should have thought twice before screwing around with my daughter.”

His words are laced with venom, but they don’t affect me in the least bit.

I’ll do as I damn well please.

Swallowing hard, I make a decision here and now. “Out of respect for your daughter I’m not going to hit you again, but don’t test me.”

Hammer smirks, scoffing at my words which only irritates me further.

There’s nothing more I want to do than wipe that smug grin off his face.

The cruel reality is that if she wasn’t in between the two of us, I’d charge right for him.

I’m falling for his daughter, and he probably thinks I’m here using her for my own sexual pleasure.

While I do, it’s not the only reason I’m with her.

I genuinely care for her, and I know it’s because she reminds me of myself when I was her age—strong, fiery, and determined.

Here I am, never thinking I’d fall in love with a woman ever again, and I’m so close it’s not even funny.

Hell, I never thought I’d go for one of my brother’s daughters either.

Life has a funny way of surprising you.

Our relationship has been easy-going, casual, and while it’s been perfect that way . . . I want things to change.

I don’t want others to think they can come in and claim Oak.

If she’s going to be anyone’s woman, she’ll be mine.

I just have to tell her what I want, and hope she wants the same.

I have to find a way to make this work, for both our sakes.

The tension and rage in the air is palpable as I glare at her father.

The veins in his forehead almost pop with every word he speaks. “Why’d you have to fuck around with my daughter? I didn’t have a problem with you, but now we have a big fuckin’ problem.”

Oakleigh stands beside me, her light mocha skin glowing under the new lights we just installed.

Her dark chocolate eyes flash with defiance. “Dad, I mean it, just stop.”

Hammer shakes his head, roaring with all his might. “You fuckin’ bastard! You took my little girl away from us after she went through something unimaginable, and for what, so you could get your nasty hands on her?”

Okay, now I see what this is about.

It’s not just about me.

It’s about Oakleigh being away from him and Shiloh.

I steady myself, trying to keep my voice calm despite my anger. “Hammer, calm down.”

“Calm down,” Hammer repeats, fury still so evident in his tone. “There isn’t a fucking chance in hell.”

Oakleigh sucks in a deep breath, knowing all too well this is only going to keep getting worse.
