Razor chuckles, but it’s not in amusement.

He’s still fucking pissed. “Sure, but your father should’ve thought about that before he hit me, or put his hands on you.”

I shake my head, “Don’t you dare act like you haven’t accidentally hurt someone in the heat of the moment.”

I stop speaking to Razor and look at my father, “And you, you don’t get to blame him. I came here because I needed a break. You have no idea how badly I needed to get out of LA, and yeah, something happened between us—but guess what, I’m an adult, so I can make my own fucking decisions.”

My father doesn’t bother to say a single thing.

My words hang heavy in the air, the truth laid out for everyone.

In this moment, I can’t deny it anymore.

I’m in love with Razor, and not even my father’s rage will keep me away from him.

"Look, Dad," I say softly, walking over toward him.

I maintain my tone, staring into his eyes. "I love you. I love that you’re so fearlessly protective of me, but it’s misguided rightnow. This is my life, and I’m going to make decisions you’re not always happy with. Razor is a part of my life now, and you have to accept that."

I know choosing to stand by Razor will only cause a wedge to form between me and my father . . . but isn’t love worth the risk?

Razor

With clenched fists at my sides, I watch Hammer’s face twist in rage.

It’s no surprise he isn’t thrilled about me and Oakleigh, but I never thought it would turn into this.

The veins on his forehead bulge, threatening to burst as he processes what’s going on.

Meanwhile, I want to fucking kill him for putting his hands on her.

Oakleigh’s tried to calm him down, to tell him that she’s living her life and doing what she wants, no matter what he says.

I can tell it won’t matter, because Hammer’s going to have a problem with it.

The way he glares at me like I’m his biggest enemy tells me he isn’t going to stop until Oakleigh is out of my life.

Hammer looks back at his daughter, venom lacing his tone. “I know you think you want this, but you don’t. Trust me, okay? You don’t want a man like that in your life.”

Oakleigh reels her head back, “With all due respect, you don’t know anything about him if you’re saying that to me. He’s a great guy. Yeah, we might have an age difference, but that doesn’t take away from how good his heart is.”

I try to remain calm, despite the storm raging within me. “Hammer, calm the fuck down, would you?”

For a split second, I glance over at Oakleigh, her beautiful dark chocolate eyes widening in shock from what I just said.

She’s nervous as hell, and all I want to do is reach out and tell her everything’s going to be fine.

But, I can’t do that right now. It’s not the time, or the place.

Hammer cackles like a maniac. “Razor, you’re lucky I don’t rip your fucking throat out right now.”

Licking my lips, I egg him on. “Go ahead and try. Let’s see how far you get.”

Oakleigh snaps, her patience wearing thin. “Enough!”

I know I should take a step back, but I’m not going to show an ounce of weakness, especially not when it comes to protecting Oakleigh.
