My throat swells. I can’t speak. Can’t breathe. Can’t fucking hear through the rush of blood pumping in my ears.

All I can do is stare at the crisp leather with the metal plate, mind spinning as I try and comprehend the reality of the situation.

The bracelet belongs to Knox.

Knox was the one who wrote me the note asking to meet him in the locker room.

Knox was the secret admirer.

Knox was the one to trap me and threaten me with a knife.

Knox was the one who touched me and groped me in the dark.

Who tried to . . .

I bring a trembling hand up to my mouth in an effort to stifle the moan bubbling to the surface. Or maybe it’s vomit; I’m not sure.

It’s too much.

I can’t process this, especially with Jace staring at me like I’m a crazy person.

Knox is one of Jace’s best friends. He’s one of mybrother’sbest friends.

Their crew is ride or die.

They’d do anything for him.

They trust him with their life.

Jace just sat here two seconds ago and told me he couldn’t lose any of them. I have no idea what’s going through his head, but I also know I can’t address his concerns when I’m at war so violently with my own.

I straighten. Woozy on my feet, I stumble slightly and Jace braces me with a steadying hand. “Brynn? What’s wrong? Talk to me.”

It’s the second time he’s said that to me tonight, and I can’t help but think I’m not worth the trouble. Maybe that’s why he wants to pretend we’re not together.

I shake my head.

I need to be alone.

I need him out of here so I can process.

I press one hand to my stomach and the other to my mouth, afraid I might be sick. “I don’t feel so well,” I mumble through the churning in my gut.

“You think you might throw up?”

I nod. “I need you to go.”

“Was it the beer? I didn’t see you drink anything. I’ll stay and help. I’ll—”

“No.” I shake my head violently. “We can’t risk you getting caught here.”

“Like I give a shit about that right now, Brynn. You need me. Let me help you.”

I hold my hand up, shaking my head as I walk backward toward the hallway. “Go. Please.” I barely get the words out before my stomach pitches and I dry heave into my hand.

“Brynn—” Jace reaches.

“Go!”
