“You know it.” Teagan brings me in for a one-armed hug and claps me on the back. “Watch after her for me, yeah?”

I lean back and look him in the eyes, serious as I nod. “Of course, I will.”

Teagan nods and turns to Brynn, wrapping her up in a giant bear hug and lifting her off her feet with a growl. When he sets her back down, he ruffles her hair as she swats his hand away. “Take care lil’ sis.”

“Four minutes!” she screams.

“Those were a long ass four minutes.” He points. “Just ask Mom.”

Brynn snorts.

“And just because I ship you two now,” he says, pointing between us, “doesn’t mean I won’t kill you if you hurt her.” He pauses at me and I raise my hands.

“Noted. But you don’t have to worry,” I say, wrapping an arm around Brynn’s waist and drawing her in. “She’s safe with me.”

“All right, get going, you two.” Teagan waves toward the truck. “I can sense a kiss coming any minute, and I’ve seen enough of that in the last week to last a lifetime.”

I bark out a laugh as I round the truck and help Brynn inside.

“Text me when you get there,” Teagan adds.

“Okay, Dad.” I smirk as Teagan gives me the middle finger, and I climb inside.

The engine rumbles to life when I turn the key, and I glance over at Brynn. “Ready?”

“Ready,” she smiles and we offer Teagan one last wave as we pull out of sight.

I park my truck outside the dorms, and I can’t help but think back to that early day in June when Brynn found me leaning against her mother’s car. She was so pissed; I could see the steam coming from her ears.

I grin as I help her down from the truck.

“What are you smiling about?”

I shake my head and place a soft kiss on her lips, grinning like a fool, still getting used to the idea I can kiss her whenever I want and she won’t deck me. I’m kind of loving it. “Nothing. Just how much I love you.”

“Liar.”

I laugh as I grab two of her suitcases and we head inside.

She got her new roommate assignment a week ago, and I think I’m more nervous than she is to see what she’s like.

Elizabeth Brian,a totally normal name.

I know Brynn has Charlotte and Samantha, but I pray this chick is cool and they hit it off because she deserves this, and then some.

We pause in front of her room and she knocks, but when no one answers, she glances at me. She takes a deep breath and unlocks the door, then steps inside to find it empty. “I’m the first one here,” she says, and I’m both relieved and nervous.

After I carry in the rest of her stuff, we unpack her things and settle her side of the room just how she wants it. We’re almost finished when we hear a knock on the door and I freeze.

Brynn meets my eyes, a flicker of nerves moving through the sparkling of violet of her own before she calls out, “It’s open.”

A second later, a tall brunette with a single streak of purple in the front of her hair peeks her head in. I hold my breath as she takes a step inside pulling a rolling suitcase behind her, followedby two middle-aged people who I assume are her parents. “Hi,” she waves a hand, flashing us a tentative smile. “I’m Elizabeth, your new roommate.” She takes a step closer to Brynn, holding her hand out. “I assume you’re Brynn Nichols?”

Brynn’s pouty lips split into a wide smile. “That’s me.” Then she turns to me. “And this is my boyfriend, Jace. He’s a wide receiver for the Griffins.”

My attention turns to her with a grin, surprised that her comment almost sounded like bragging. I’ve never known Brynn to be boastful, but for some reason, it feels good when it’s regarding me.
