“Oh. Wow. Hi.” Elizabeth cocks her head, assessing. “Do you have any friends?”

The three of us laugh before Elizabeth turns to the two figures behind her hovering in the doorway, and she waves them in. “These are my parents. Pam and Daniel.”

Her mother waves. “It’s so nice to meet you. Where are you all from?”

Elizabeth rolls her eyes. “Sorry in advance for the millions of questions they’re about to bombard you with, but they were super worried I’d be stuck with a psychopath for a roommate. That would be theworst, but clearly, you’re normal.”

Brynn laughs lightly. “Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. Thatwouldbe the worst.”

Nearly an hour later, Brynn walks me outside to my truck to say goodbye, at least for now, and to give Elizabeth a little privacy with her parents.

I back her up against the driver’s side door and lean into her with one arm propped above her head. “Are you sure I can’t convince you to come back to my place?” I run my free handdown the side of her bare arm, and she shivers. “Chris won’t be back until tonight.”

I can see the war in her eyes before she shakes her head. “As much as I would love that, I feel like I should hang with Elizabeth and get to know her a bit, you know?”

I groan. “Fine. Get a new roommate, and I get the shaft. I see how it is.”

Her answering laughter fills the emptiness in my chest. “Poor Jace.”

I stick my lip out in a pout. “I know. I’m practically neglected.”

Her gaze flicks to my mouth. “I guess I’ll just have to make it up to you.”

“Mmm. That sounds promising.” I dip my head and brush my lips over her mouth, sinking into it as her hands move into my hair, threading through it as a moan rumbles through her chest.

Her lips are soft and persistent, and I yearn for more while her coconut scent sinks into my bones.

By the time I pull back, the rapid rise and fall of her chest presses against my own, and I want her even more than before. “You know, I can share. You could just live with me during the week and with Elizabeth on the weekends.”

She bites a lip, fighting a smile. “Like shared custody?”

“Precisely. But in our scenario, I’m the good parent, the favorite.”

“Ooh. Should I call you Daddy?”

Heat fists in my belly as I growl and nip her lower lip. “You can’t say shit like that unless you want me to throw you over my shoulder and take you back to my place.”

“Is that a threat?” she asks, her voice a breathy rasp in her throat.

“Damn right it is.”

I lower my mouth to hers once more, kissing her until her hands grip my waist and we both come undone. I’m about to lifther up and wrap her legs around me when someone passes by us and whistles.

Pulling away, I chuckle as I lean my forehead against the cool glass beside her head and take a deep breath. “Brynn Nichols, you’re going to be the death of me.”

“I think you’ve said that once before.”

I lean back and meet her eyes. “It’s true.”

She grins as she gives me a chaste peck on the lips, while I groan because I know where this leads.Nowhere.“Do I have to leave?”

“I really think you should,” she says, biting back her smile for the millionth time.

I’m glad she thinks it’s funny how much I want her.

“What happened to shared custody?”

She lifts her gaze to the sky as if deep in thought. “Tomorrow’s your day.”
