“Leave your bags,” Gabby said, all but pushing us toward the door. “It’s at the Bears’ house.”

Together, the three of us scampered down the stairs, out the door, and into the sunshine.

Harvest was in full swing. A combine was visible in the distant wheat field.

The walk to Adrian’s home on the property wasn’t far. It was a scenic home just past the barn, where several people were leading out a pair of horses and preparing to climb onto the saddles.

Gabby talked as we walked. “Adrian and I have been staying here at his mom’s house while we planned the wedding and waited for our house to be built on the property his dad left for him.”

“Where is that?”

“Not far from here, but just far enough to give us a decent distance.”

“Don’t want in-laws dropping in at all hours?” I said.

“Definitely not,” Gabby said. “Don’t get me wrong; I love them. Adrian’s family is amazing. Even his mom, now that she’s finally nice to me,” she added with a laugh.

I guessed there was an inside story in there somewhere.

The three of us entered, and the home was well-kept and clean. She led the way down the hall toward the back bedroom.

“Adrian’s brother, Jordan, has left for college, so I’ve taken his room. For now.” She grinned but staggered back as Adrian stepped out of the door of a different room.

He looked dashing in a suit and tie. His dark hair was such a contrast to her blonde, and yet from the devotion in his gaze, I could tell the two of themwere a perfect fit.

I didn’t know much about how they’d met or how long they’d been together, but the two of them had an everlasting look that made me the slightest bit envious.

“You’re here?” she said to him.

“Just had to stop and grab some things.” He looked her over, slipped an arm around her, and pressed a kiss to her temple. “We’ll be heading out soon.”

“Sure,” she said. “We’ll be ready. I just wanted to show the girls my dress.”

Adrian’s eyes lit with interest. “Don’t mind if I do.”

He turned on his heels and strode past her toward the back bedroom that we’d been heading toward.

Gabby laughed and caught his arm. Pulling him to a stop, she then dashed forward to block the way. “Not you.”

Adrian tried pushing past her again.

With her hands on his shoulders, Gabby pinned him against the wall and called over her shoulder. “I’ve got him. You two get in.”

Laughing, Adelie skipped past the love birds. I smiled and scurried into the room as well. Gabby retreated and barred the door. Growling, Adrian lunged toward her.

She giggled and clung to him as he dipped her back and kissed her.

He muttered low in her ear, but I was close enough I overheard.

“I’m so done waiting,” he said.

“One more day,” she replied, gazing deeply into his eyes.

Adelie and I exchanged a grin, and from the glint in hereyes, I knew she had the same thought I did—we were instantly forgotten.

I was about to say something when a voice sounded from down the hall.

“Adrian? You in here? Oh—hey.”
