I looked past her into the huge closet and froze. Isolde sat in front of the vanity, bright lights on her face while her makeup was being done. The silky robe fell around her shoulders, exposing too much skin, andfuckit was hard to look away. Her scent floated out like a beacon. I felt like one of those cartoon characters following a visible line of scent to find a prize.

Trinity followed my gaze and smirked. “See something you like?”

Isolde’s eyes rose and met mine in the mirror. We weren’t going to lie to her, so I simply said, “Yes.”

“Better start getting ready,” Trinity nodded back outside. “She’ll be done soon.”

“Trinity,” I whispered before the door closed. “Report the driver.”

She frowned. “Why?”

“Because he looked in the bag, fucking congratulated me, and said he was jealous.”

The smile that grew on her face was one Ineverwanted to be on the wrong end of. “I’ll take care of it.”

She closed the door, and I kept standing there. Couldn’t quite get my feet to move. She was soclose.

“Vaughn, you can take a turn in the bathroom to get dressed.”

“Right.”

Hawk, now in a suit, smiled. I just shook my head. “Like you’re not thinking the same damn thing.”

“Oh, I am.”

It took almost no time to change. We were nearly always in suits for our clients. I could probably put one on blindfolded. Thankfully, by the time we’d all changed and stood in the living area waiting, the doors to the closet opened, and Trinity announced, “She’s ready!”

Isolde rolled her eyes at the grand reveal, but none of us did. Green silk, creamy skin, curves. Fiery hair and glossy lips. Eyes dark enough to make my body heat.

And, of course, her scent washed over us like a wave of exquisite sugar that sent all my blood racing south. It felt like salvation and tasted like forever.

Holy.

Fucking.

Shit.

CHAPTER EIGHT

________

ISOLDE

Turned out Ronnie was a friend of Rin’s. She brought her in to do my hair and makeup, brushing aside any mention of cost.

Ronnie, or Veronica, was a dream. Sweet as pie and made me up better than I ever could. When she finished, I barely felt like myself. I felt like a woman who could walk into the grand ballroom on the other side of the house and still hold my head high.

“Thank you so much.”

“My pleasure,” she said. “Make him wish he’d never fucked up.”

I grinned.

Yes.

I would do just that.

Ocean and Trinity deemed my shoes acceptable. So I was a few inches taller, and despite my resistance, the dress fit me perfectly, and it lookedgood.
