I choked out a laugh and pulled back. “I have snot on my face.”

“I don’t care.” Sebastian purred and lifted me from the chair, taking my place, and sitting me on his lap. “I’ve got you.”

He reached for another napkin and let me clean up my face before he offered me a bite of my sandwich.

“Well, we’ve got a few hours before the meeting. Is there anything else we should know, Nolan?”

“I’m sure Lane won’t listen to what I have to say.” I shrugged and opened my mouth for another bite.

Arden shook his head. “That’s why we asked for an impartial person to mediate.”

Dillon nodded in agreement. “But Lane insisted on picking the person.”

“What a clusterfuck.” Charity raised her nose in disgust. “What’s wrong with the Grimclaw pack?”

“How much time you got?” Luigi chuckled. “They’ve been driven by greed, wrath and lust for as long as I can remember.”

He wasn’t wrong.

“I’m not saying you aren’t worth a pack war, Nolan, but we need to find a way to avoid it.” Julius pushed the rest of the sandwich my way. “History has shown us pack wars never end well.”

Dillon sat back in his chair. “I plan to ask them to relinquish you from their pack.”

“And Simon needs to stay away.” Sebastian’s voice washed over my body and I felt his arms squeeze me gently.

“But.” My body filled with dread. “What if they don’t agree?”

“We’ll be open to negotiations.” Dillon sighed. “Just know that you’re coming home with us.”

“Thank you.” I relaxed against Sebastian and focused on eating my lunch.

None of this was how I pictured my life going, but being rescued from Simon and being welcomed into a new pack was a well-appreciated surprise.

Tuning out the chatter, I finished my sandwich and snuggled into Sebastian with my eyes closed.

Warm lips pressed against my temple, then moved to my ear. Sebastian’s breath tickled the shell of my ear as he whispered. “Wake up, Nolan.”

“I’m not asleep.” I stretched and felt the pillow beneath my head. My eyes popped open, and I looked around the bedroom. “When did I fall asleep?”

“While sitting on my lap at the meeting.”

I tilted my head back to see him. “I’ve never fallen asleep like that before.”

“Never underestimate an alpha purr.” He chuckled and rolled onto his back.

Rolling with him, I moved to straddle him. “Not just any alpha’s purr.Myalpha’s purr.”

He smiled and reached up, cupping my face. “How are you feeling?”

“Brave.” I nodded. “I hope that makes sense.”

“It does.” He sat up and his lips covered mine for a quick kiss. “We need to get going soon.”

“What do I wear?” My eyes got big, remembering I have nothing here.

He smiled and gave me a wink. “Check the closet.”

Scrambling from the bed, I rushed over and opened the doors. To the left hung Sebastian’s clothes and on the right hung new items for me.
