“Jeez. Fine.” He snarled and shifted.

Charity and Julius flanked him as we took off towards the clearing. Darkness slowly settled on the land, heightening our senses. Heading back there, I couldn’t smell Nolan anywhere. Not until we were closer to the clearing.

The seven of us had our noses to the ground, and in my peripheral I saw Bradley sniff, tilt his head and sniffed again. He shifted and stood there, shaking his head.

His scent permeated the ground where I stood and I growled, charging against him, knocking him to the ground with my jaw around his throat.

“Wait!” Julius shifted and dropped to his knees to look me in the eye. “Bastian, we need him to answer some questions.”

“Wrorw.” I kept my hold on his neck.

Julius held up his hand to me. “Bradley, why isyourscent fresh here?”

“I like to run too, man.” He trembled beneath me.

“When were you last here?”

Bradley’s eye shifted to Charity and back up to Julius. “Last night.”

“Who were you with, Brad?” Charity stepped closer. “You may as well tell us.” She narrowed her eyes.

“Erich.” He whispered.

I felt my dad’s hand on my head. “Did you say Erich? As in Erich Garner from the Everclaw pride?”

“Yes.” He tried to swallow. “Look, I haven’t even seen Nolan since the meeting.”

I let go of his throat and shoved against his chest to move off of him as I shifted to my biped form. “So that’s one scent.”

He rubbed his neck and stood up slowly. “Lane doesn’t exactly tolerate inter-species dating.”

“Charity?” I looked over at her. “How did you know?”

“Bradley asked me out, and I said sure, but I was the cover.” She smiled. “Look I get it, your pack is full of megalomaniacs. But you gotta stand up sometime.”

“I know.” Bradley toed the ground. “Gonna out me?”

“Pfft.” I laughed. “No. That’s on you, man.” I opened my arms wide, motioning around. I don’t recognize the other scents.”

“Honestly?” Bradley shrugged. “These scents were here before I was last night.”

“And they’re not your pack?”

“No.” He shook his head. “Hey? What about checking on the other side?”

“You mean swim across the river?” My pop squinted. “That’s a bit of a swim.”

“Yeah, but Brad’s right. The tracks stop here. What if they continue on the other side?”

“Dad, call Luigi and check in. I’m going across.” I ran towards the water, splashing the cold water all over my body. Behind me, I heard more people splashing and glancing over my shoulder. I saw Flynn, Julius, Charity and Bradley.

The five of us swam hard to cross the river and as we grew closer to the shore, I smelled the same scents, still without my mate.

Who were these people? And why did they kidnap my omega?

I vaguely heard my dad yell something over the splashing sounds and current. My muscles ached from the overuse and cold water, but if there was a chance of finding Nolan, I had to keep going.

Fighting through the fatigue, I made it to the other shore and climbed from the cold water, into the chilly fall air. My dick was trying to crawl back up inside my body and my anger coursed through my body.
