I stopped partway back, vomiting from the stench. Once I finished retching, I found a clean place to roll and try to rub the scent away. When I realized it wasn’t helping, I rolled to my feet and ran as fast as I could to the river’s edge.

“Oh my gawd!” I heard my dad gag. “What is that awful smell?”

I came from the woods and felt all eyes on me.

“Sebastian.” He gagged again. “What did you get into?”

I shifted and gagged with him. “I found.” Retching sounds. “A cabin.” More retching sounds. “With an old lady.” I dropped to my knees. “She threw.”

“Sebastian, get in the water!” Charity yelled as she dropped to her knees, heaving.

I crawled to the water’s edge and took handfuls of sand, mud, and anything else scrubbing it against my skin. “Water balloons.”

“Ugh!” Julius yelled. “We get it! Just stay in the water!”

“You are not getting in my car.” My dad said, before turning away to heave as well.

“Get.” My dad heaved again. “In the car.”

I watched Julius, Flynn and Charity run after my dads and slide into the backseat.

Looking up at them, Pop held up a paper with writing.

Swim home. You stink!

I gave him a thumbs up and dove into the water, swimming back across the river. The foul odor still hung around and until I got a hot shower with something to remove this… this… whatever the fuck it was, I won’t be able to think straight.

The table they strapped me to wasn’t comfortable. I had itches all over my body that I couldn’t itch, and the plugs were uncomfortable. I had no concept of time. I might’ve been here for two hours or two days. Who knows?

At least the stench lessened.

Thoughts of my tantrum repeated in my head, reminding me I’m a colossal dumb ass.

I missed Sebastian, and his arms, and my nests.

A wolf howled, and my skin prickled with relief.

That’s Sebastian’s howl.

Taking a deep breath in. I let out a howl to answer and felt a shock of electricity run through me. Leaving me feeling drained against the table. Tears filled the eye mask. I screamed out of sheer frustration.

The current zapped me again. And I realized I was well and truly fucked.

I could hear voices, but I couldn’t make out what they were saying. Then I heard a loud creaking sound and a small gust of wind passed over my body.

“Now. Now.” A woman’s voice I didn’t recognize broke the silence. “Howling? Screaming? Is that any way to treat the people who are caring for you?”

She smelled like a Grimclaw, but also another pack. And the closer she got to me, the more I could smell something, no someone familiar on her.

Bradley.

“Who… who…” My body trembled.

She cackled, and I felt her near me. “You sound just like an owl, dear.”
