We’re alone for at least thirty seconds.

Reaching out, I cupped the back of her neck and brought her closer, covering her lips with mine. Her hand braced on my thigh and moved towards my erection. I knew if she brushed her hand across it, it would be game over.

“We’s ready for school!” The boys announced, coming back towards the kitchen.

She groaned and broke the kiss. “You probably should get going.”

Miranda slid from her chair and took her plate to the sink. I finished my coffee and looked at the boys.

“Ready?”

“Yes!”

She came over and crouched down. “You both be good and play nice.”

“We will.” Charlie gave her a hug, and she hugged him back, then kissed his cheek. When he moved aside she reached for Dillon.

“You have a good day.” She hugged him, and he wrapped his arms around her. Miranda kissed his cheek, then let him step away before standing.

“You have a good day too.” She stepped over to me. “You can take the seat from my car.”

“My dad picked up another set.” I reached for her and she wrapped her arms around me.

“Be safe.” Her breath tickled my neck.

“I will.” Stepping back was the hardest thing I’ve had to do lately.

Miranda cleaned off the table and busied herself while we left while I was trying to do the math to figure out how fast I could get back here.

Miranda

I waited until they pulled out of the driveway to squeal in excitement. After all these years, Henry still wanted me. Not as a Plan B. Not as a side piece. Not to scratch an itch.

Henry. Fucking. Walsh. Desired me.

Questions swirled in my head. I wanted to know everything.

Why did it all go down the way it did? What did Victoria have over him?

The dogs barked as a car pulled in the driveway and, looking out the window, I didn’t recognize it. Thenshestepped out.

Margaret Walsh.

She walked towards the door, and I opened it to greet her. “Hello?” I’m sure my face matched my voice with surprise.

“Hello, Melinda.” Her snide voice made my skin crawl.

“It’s, uh.” I laughed. “It’s Miranda.”

She rolled her eyes back into her head and pursed her lips. “I need to speak with you.”

“Come on in.” I opened the door wider and stepped aside.

She motioned to my body. “Is that how you walk around infront of a little boy?”

“Yeah.” I deadpanned. “They’re pajamas. We don’t all have fancy peignoirs to wear.” Turning from her I went back into the kitchen.

Her heels clicked on the floor as she followed me. “Quaint.”
