“Wait.” Gene let the door swing open and come back, hitting his back. “There’s another one?”
“This morning Frankie insisted on me seeing her sand creation. Dillon and Charlie were already there, and they told me they’re brudders.”
“Brudders.” I threw my head back in laughter. “The way they say it kills me.”
“Miranda’s Charlie?” Gene’s mouth hung open. “He’syours?”
“Don’t say it like that.” I cringed. “I think he’s a handsome little guy.”
“No.” He shook his head. “It’s not that. Edie said Miranda kept a tight lip on who the dad was. Even going as far as to say she let a few guys take a crack, so who knows?”
“He’s mine.”
Ethan pulled his phone out and handed it to Gene. “Look at him. Henry couldn’t deny that boy if he tried.”
“Damn.” Gene smiled. “The three of them are adorable together.”
“Hey!” I nodded at Ethan’s phone. “Send it to me.”
“You got it.” He smiled and came over to sit beside me. “Hey, Gene? Where’s Big E?”
Looking around, I noticed Big E wasn’t anywhere to be seen. “Yeah. I thought he was chained to the grill back there.”
“Hold on.” He went through the door, and we heard dishes clattering before he came back through with a basket of fries. “He’s having breakfast with afriend.”
“Who is she?” Ethan smiled and snapped up a couple of fries.
“Um, not she.” He shook his head. “He.”
“So?” I felt confused. “We get together. What’s the big deal?”
Gene leaned against the back counter. “Have you guys noticed Big E never dated in high school?”
“So?” Ethan reached for the ketchup.
“Dude. Spit it out.” I got up and went over to get us something to drink.
“Fine. Big E is gay.”
Ethan and I both shrugged. “And?”
“It’s not a big deal.” I brought over two sodas. “Is it?”
“No.” Gene smiled. “He said he kept it quiet because he wasn’t sure what he felt.”
“So then, now that we know that … who’d he meet for breakfast? Anyone we know?”
“Tommy.”
“Paul’s younger brother?” My jaw dropped.
Ethan paused a fry in front of his lips. “The brain behind the brew at the pub?”
“I didn’t know Tommy was gay too.”
Gene nodded. “They’ve been talking for a long time and Big E got brave and asked him on a date.”
Ethan smiled bigger. “E’s food sense with Tom’s brew sense? Holy hell, we’re gonna get some amazing food and beer from them!”
