“Oh.” I leaned against the door.

“Shit.” He sat back. “You really did sleep with her.”

“I … yeah.” My hands scrubbed over my face, and I pinched the bridge of my nose.

“Listen to me.” His voice was softer, but still filled with anger. “Jay won’t press charges as long as you stay the fuck away from her.”

“Dad …”

“Dad, nothing!” He jumped up from his chair. “Keep your dick in your pants!”

“Well, maybe if I had you to talk to, I wouldn’t have done something so abhorrent in your eyes!”

“I’m. Right. Here.” He poked his finger on his desk to punctuate each word.

“Sure.” I sneered. “If I can catch you before you’ve had one too many, you might give a shit about me!”

“Charles Henry Walsh, watch your tone.”

“Have another drink, dad, that’s what you’re good at these days.” I stormed from his office and ran upstairs to my room.

The girl Iwantto be with, I can’t and in the meantime, I’mstuckwith a bitch.

When my mom called me down to dinner, no one spoke and tension filled the room. I barely ate, then ran back to my room to finish my homework.

Two weeks.

I just needed to make it through the next two weeks, then I can be free of everyone and everything.

My parents fought after I left the room and I vaguely heard my dad tell my mom that I should have the right to see who I wanted.

Too little, too late, old man.

I spent the weekend skulking around the house, avoiding everyone until I went back to school Monday morning.

The guys were waiting for me crowded around Richard’s re-rebuilt pickup.

“Dude. Where were you all weekend?” Eugene asked, handing me an energy drink.

Shaking my head, I popped it open and took a drink. “I had a shit day Friday and wasn’t fit for human interaction.”

Richard nodded. “Been there.”

Wally and Dexter walked over. “So we doin’ a party this weekend?”

“Hell yeah!” Ethan laughed. “There’s always a bash.”

The group of sophomore girls walked past us, and Ethan yelled out. “Have a good day at school, little sister!”

Vivian held up her arm with her middle finger extended as they kept going.

Miranda walked in the middle of the herd and had her red hair pulled up like a mane. No makeup on her face and tight jeans that hugged her ass.

I wanted to run over, but her grandfather’s threat was fresh on my mind and I decided against it.

“You get a chance to talk to her?” Richard nodded towards her as he took a drink of his soda.

Shaking my head, I took a deep breath. “I can’t wait for the party!”
