As the vibrations of their orgasms faded, Lucky collapsed beside her, pulling her into his arms. For now, they needed no words—their bodies had spoken volumes.

Laying in bed with Lucky post orgasm was heaven. But the moment was shattered by the piercing ring of his phone. Reluctantly, Lucky rolled away from Trinity, answering the phone on speaker, he snapped, “This better be good.”

“Boss,” came the tense reply, “it's not over. There's something you need to see.”

Lucky stiffened. “I’ll be right down.” Trinity scrambled out of bed beside him and rushed to the dresser where she now kept multiple outfits. As quickly as she could, she pulled on a pair of jeans and top. Her heartbeat wildly in her chest. What else could possibly happen tonight?

Lucky gestured to Irish, who approached with a laptop. “How are you feeling?” Trinity asked, not having seen the man in several hours.

“Better. Doc thinks we were all slipped high doses of laxatives to lower our defense. He got us fixed up.”

The computer screen flickered to life, revealing the security footage of Day & Night. “Son of a bitch,” Lucky cursed under his breath. As Lucky watched the screen, Trinity peered over his shoulder, her breath catching in her throat at the sight.

“Is that...?” she began, fear lacing her words.

“Yes. Day & Night is on fire.” Lucky snapped the laptop shut. The room fell silent, all eyes on Lucky. His gaze locked onto Trinity, he squeezed her hand before he took charge.

“Listen up!” Lucky’s command cut through the tension. “We've been through hell tonight, but it looks like hell ain't done with us yet.”

Ten minutes later, tears streamed down Trinity’s face as she watched the firefighters drive off, leaving nothing but ashes in their wake. They’d been called to the fire too late to save anything. She had insurance on the building, but she’d put months of hard work into it. She’d handpicked every book and it took years to gather the collection. She’d brought in all of her absolute favorites for opening day. Sure, she had more in storage, quite a few more, but the books that had just burned were ones that held memories she couldn't replace. Going to garage sales with her mother, who’d long past. Making it amonthly tradition with her daughters…some of the destroyed books they had picked out.

“Check every shadow,” Lucky's voice cut through the air, not loud but laden with authority. His gaze didn't leave Trinity's face, yet every man present felt the command. “These cowards didn’t set the blaze and ride out. It’s no doubt a trap. Someone is watching, waiting to strike.”

They fanned out and it wasn’t long before comms lit up. “Fuck. They are coming.”

“How many?” Lucky asked.

“God damned all of them,” Savage roared.

Lucky looked at Trinity, and for the first time, she saw something resembling fear in his eyes. Breaking the window of a small establishment, Lucky reached down and unlocked the door. “This is Natasha’s office, Jay’s girlfriend. I’ll replace the door later. Go to the bathroom, lock the door, and take cover. The door breaking is going to set off silent alarms to Jay and the men on Valhalla. I have no doubt they’ll be on their way soon. Do not unlock it for anyone you don’t know.”

“I want to help?—”

“The best way for you to help right now is to stay out of the way and stay safe,” Lucky said, pausing just long enough to kiss her.

CHAPTER 16

LUCKY

Leaving Trinity behind was one of the hardest things he’d ever had to do. He didn’t know what they were going to face and he sure as hell wasn’t going to put her in the line of fire. He quickly mounted his bike and joined the rest of the crew.

“They are turning, headed straight for you, boss.”

Lucky nodded, raised his hand, and the bikes surged forward as one, a thunderous wave of metal and determination. They rode out to meet their fate, to confront the chaos. Hell Speed surged forward. Their leader, Rico, a mass of muscle and malice, aimed his bike straight for Lucky, seeking to topple the king from his throne. But Lucky was undeterred. His focus was laser sharp as he maneuvered his Harley with practiced ease, weaving between the onslaught of enemies like a specter of vengeance.

“Push them back!” Lucky commanded, and The Watchmen responded with a roar of affirmation. Within seconds, the air in Grand Ridge thrummed with the raw energy of conflict, the town's deserted streets transforming into a battlefield as gunfire erupted, shattering the silence. Bullets cut through the evening, some hitting their marks and others hitting nearby businesses and vehicles. Lucky wasn’t entirely sure who fired first, otherthan it wasn’t one of his men. They preferred less than lethal force.

Unfortunately, all it took was one shot to fire for the rest of them to follow suit. He heard the sirens in the distance, and cops would be on scene soon. He scanned the chaos in front of him until he found the man he was looking for, their leader.

Their eyes met and Lucky jutted his head to the left, half expecting the other man to ignore him. Instead, he drove forward to the alley. Lucky signaled Rampage and followed suit.

“How many of our men need to die tonight?” Lucky asked, coming to a stop in front of him.

“No one was supposed to fucking die,” Rico spat.

“Then end this.”

“It’s not that easy and you know it.”
