“It is. You just open your fucking mouth and give the order!” Lucky exclaimed. “Or do the men not listen to you?”

“Are you questioning the loyalty of my men? It wasn’t one of mine giving you information.”

“You are in bed with the wrong people. We had no beef between us until you hooked up with Los Pedro and targeted Spartans. Like I said before, I don’t give a rat’s ass who the leader of Pedro’s Rejects is. You are free to do what you want, anywhere but here. This is our town, and we won’t have fentanyl or any other drug trafficked through here. Grand Ridge is off limits.”

“Too bad your location is prime for our needs. You are right off the interstate; you have a massive truck stop ten minutes away, and loads of rich fucking tourists pouring millions into the ski resorts.”

“Off. Limits,” Lucky repeated.

“Come on, Lucky. Work with me here. We can set some ground rules between us to keep it out of the schools, away fromthe teens. I can even make sure it’s not within city limits, but we need the truck stop and the ski resorts.”

“I don’t think I’m making myself clear.” Lucky raised his gun and pointed it at Rico’s head. Rico in turn, raised his and pointed it at Lucky. He wasn’t smart enough to bring one of his men with him, however. The sound of another bike riding up behind Rico caught his attention. Seeing Rampage’s gun pointing at him from behind, Rico slowly lowered his.

“Under no circumstances is Grand Ridge, the town, or the county, going to be a playground for you or the cartel. Valhalla sacrificed too much to clear the drugs from resorts.”

“I hear you, loud and clear. I’ll pull my men back tonight, but you are going to have to deal with The Rejects. They aren’t rational like I am.”

“Pull them back. Now,” Lucky said, refusing to lower his piece until he was obeyed. Once Rico gave the call over his own comms, Lucky and Rampage lowered their guns and watched them ride off.

She was hiding in a bathroom stall, holding a stuffie to her chest, like a damned coward. On the way into the bathroom, Trinity saw a teddy bear sitting on Natasha’s desk. Without thinking, she snatched it up and now the bear kept her company. The loud sounds of gunfire and motorcycle engines permeated the space around her. Glass shattered and loud thuds reverberated through her. It sounded like a war out there.

Truth was, Trinity was exhausted. The adrenaline rushes of the day had left her spent. She rested her head against the wall and cried. Her entire body shook with her sobs. She couldn’t do this. Being kidnapped and then having her business burn to theground? Twelve hours ago, she’d given herself a pep talk about how far she’d come and now?—

Stop it! Stop it right now! Stop feeling sorry for yourself!

So what if the building burned down? It was a building. No one was hurt. You can rebuild. You haven’t lost your business, just the building that housed it. She tried to force herself to think of the positives. But no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t stop shaking in fear for Lucky and the men outside fighting.

The sounds of sirens grew louder as they approached from a distance. Surely, the police would arrest the bad guys and make the shooting stop. She held the bear closer to her chest and buried her face into it. When the sirens sounded like they were outside the door, she was tempted to get up and run outside. But she listened to Lucky and stayed put, screaming when a loud pounding came at the door.

“Open the door, Little Rabbit,” Lucky’s voice came from outside. She unlocked the door and swung it open. Seeing Lucky standing there, relief washed over Trinity in a tidal wave, and her knees buckled under the weight of it. But Lucky was there, his hold on her unwavering as he scooped her up closer against him. His lips brushed against her forehead, and she could smell the mix of gunpowder and earth that clung to him.

“Gotcha, baby girl,” he said, his tone laced with a possessive edge that sent a thrill spiraling down Trinity's spine. She let out a shuddering sigh and allowed herself to melt against him, the adrenaline that once fueled her fight now igniting a different kind of fire within. “Tank is going to take you home with him to Valhalla. You’re going to spend the night with Delilah.”

“Wait? What? I want you.”

“There are some things I need to take care of. I don’t think you will be safe at the compound or at my house. Just in case there is another round of attacks, I need you to be safe. I’ll come for you when this is all over.” He sealed the promise with asearing kiss. “No arguing, Little Rabbit. I need you to just get in the truck.”

Trinity didn’t even see Tank’s truck pull up beside her, it just appeared. Lucky helped her up into it and reached across to secure her seatbelt.

“Take good care of my Little Girl ,” he said to Tank.

“You know it. I’ll protect her like she’s mine.”

CHAPTER 17

TRINITY

Lucky's callused hand slid through Trinity's hair, a gentle gesture that belied the steel in his grip, the power he wielded. His fingers untangled the knots from her tresses. “You're safe now,” he murmured, voice low and steady against the chaos that had only just begun to settle like dust around them. Her world may have been reduced to rubble and ruin, but in his arms, she felt like she could conquer anything. She leaned into his touch, allowed herself to be grounded by the solid presence of her protector, her lover—her Daddy. “Did you have fun with Delilah?”

“Tank let us watch movies and drink hot chocolate until I fell asleep on the couch. He had marshmallows, sprinkles, andwhipped cream. I’m beginning to think he’s a better Daddy than you,” she teased.

“You are, are you?” He tugged at the piece of hair in his fingers.

“No, Daddy. You are the best Daddy a girl could have.”

“I know this last month has been hard on you, and I’m sorry. Helping Spartan Elite brought this all down on us. If we weren’t together, you wouldn’t have been caught in the crossfires.”

“It’s not your fault. Besides, before you went to help Hunter, they were an issue. Remember? You said you’d already talked to them about trafficking drugs in Grand Ridge.”
