But when her legs released me and I looked up into the sated yet still hungry look on her face, all my plans went out the window. The other guys could have her after me. Right now, I needed her, to be in her.

I slid my hands under her ass lifting her up as I raised my myself to my knees and shuffled forward. And then I was sliding in her, feeling her squeeze around my cock. Home. That’s what it felt like. That warm hug from the place you know you are loved and wanted, the place where you fit like no other. That’s what this was. “Fuck, Mel—”

“That’s what you’re doing asshole. And if you don’t know that then pull out and let the better brother fuck our woman.” I lifted my hand off her hip and gave Freddy the finger as she chuckled. Although her chuckle was cut off, slipping into a moan when Noel bit her nipple. The action had her clenching down on me, strangling me. I didn’t know how much longer I’d last because I was so worked up.

“Need you to come, Mel. Come on me. Squeeze me until you’re bleed me dry.” I sped up, lifting her hips a little higher to change the angle. She moaned, but it wasn’t enough. “Freddy, help, please.” And instead of ribbing me like I thought he would, he slid his hand down her body until he found her clit, playing with it as he kissed her while Noel toyed with her tits. And together we brought her to the peak again before shoving her off. This time she took me with her, and I’d never felt so good.

This was something I’d never tire of. But I’d have fun, trying to prove my words wrong.

Chapter Eight

Freddy

I starred at my sleeping mate. My mate. The title still seemed so foreign. We’d dreamt of this day for so long that I’d almost despaired of ever finding it, finding her.

“We’re so lucky. She’s everything we ever dreamed of.” My brother stared at me over her body which rested on Noel’s sprawled form. And I had to agree. We were some lucky fucks.

The longer I looked, the more I noticed. Her cheeks were flushed, and beads of sweat lined her forehead. Those things concerned me. Were we too rough with her? Had we done too much, considering the fact she was just getting over a case of cursed hypothermia? Maybe we shouldn’t have worn her out. Let her rest more.

Noel’s eyes popped open. “Would you two keep it down please. Mel needs her sleep after everything she’s been through.”

I nodded, but something still nagged me about how flushed she looked. The room was warm, but no where near as warm as we’d had it during the night as we tried to get her body temperature back up to normal. And drinking a couple of hot buttered rums over many hours wouldn’t have made her overly hot, so why did she look like she was overheating? It made me think of yesterday when my brother was so concerned over how hot her body was. When I discovered she was a desert animal, I bought her explanation of her body trying to adjust to the cold, but this morning, that excuse seemed flimsy. “Does she seem extra hot to you?”

Noel grinned and opened his mouth—most likely to say some swift comeback—but shut it without uttering a word. Instead, he lifted his hand from her hair and lightly brushed the side of her body. His panicked gaze met mine. “Yeah, she’s really hot. Like burning up hot.”

The look of concern and protectiveness that Teddy sported the day before returned. He placed his hand on her back, and she shivered, scrunching up her face in pain as she shivered and tried to burrow into Noel. “Shit. I think she’s hotter than she was yesterday. I don’t buy that it’s her animal adjusting. I think there’s something wrong.”

Noel stroked her body again, whispering her name as he tried to wake her, but she didn’t respond. Other than the occasional tremor that made her make the face of pain, she didn’t respond to anything. “Freddy, can you go get a couple of cold cloths? I remember mom using them when I was younger, to pull down a fever from someone in our village who was poisoned. And Teddy, can you turn down the temperature again. I think we need to cool her down.”

“I agree, but we should probably move her to a bed, instead of letting her remain on you since you don’t exactly run cool.” He gave me a dirty look, but after glancing down at her, he agreed. With a little help from each other, we soon had her situated in our primary bedroom with only a thin sheet covering her and a couple of cold face cloths placed under her neck, in her armpits, and by her thighs. Teddy even managed to get a few drops of water down her throat when she roused enough to be helped to drink without choking. But after a few sips, she fell back into her deep, unresponsive sleep.

By mid morning, we were all scared. We’d only managed to get a quarter of a glass of water into her and her temperature felt hotter then ever. We had to do something, but we weren’t sure what.

“I think we should call the healer and Parsley. Between the two of them, they can figure out and cure just about anything. And since she was cursed yesterday, maybe this is part of it.” Teddy and Noel looked at me with wide eyes and almost disbelief. I wanted to scoff at them for their lack of faith in me, but I was too worried about Mel to care.

“Yeah, I think it’s that time. If she doesn’t wake soon to drink more, she going to do damage to her kidneys with this fever.” Teddy rubbed her arm since that seemed to sooth her as opposed to whenever he touched her back.

“Fine. I’ll go call them.” Noel ran his hands through his hair. It didn’t take a genius to see that he was as worried as we were. None of us wanted to leave her side even to go to the bathroom.

I climbed onto the bed beside her, taking her hand in mine. I couldn’t stop touching her, but I didn’t want to make her body grow hotter. It seemed like each time we touched her, I could almost see her temperature rise. But I needed to touch her, to know she was real, and I hoped that our touch, despite the increase in heat to her body, would be soothing to her in some way, letting her know that she wasn’t alone. “Mel, baby, I know we haven’t known each other long, but I can’t lose you. You can’t die. I don’t know what’s going on, but I’m scared. We just found you and I want decades, no centuries, with you.”

I curled into her side, keeping a little distance between us and closed my eyes.

“Freddy,” a soft voice called, waking me. My first glance was to Mel, thinking she was awake even though the voice didn’t sound right. And when her closed eyes filled my gaze along with the lines of pain on her face, my heart clenched. “Freddy,” the voice called again from somewhere behind me. I rolled over and met Parsley’s worried face. “How are you doing? Has there been any change?”

“No. No change. Her temp’s still really high, but I don’t think it’s still climbing.” I thought back to each time I touched her and compared it to now. “No. I think it is still the same as the last time I checked.”

“And she hasn’t woken?” Dr. Mendez, the shifter doctor asked.

“No.”

“Well, she partially roused enough a couple of times to get almost a quarter of this glass of water down,” Teddy clarified Noel’s one word answer.

“Hmm.” Dr. Mendz clucked his tongue against the roof of his mouth. “And you say she’s a sand cat? Interesting.”

“And Amber cursed her yesterday.” Parsley gasped at my words.

“Cursed her? What do you mean?”
