Mel (Melinda)

I stood at the window and smiled at all the snow on the ground. The blizzard had been short lived, completely over before I managed to stay awake for more than a couple of minutes at a time. But now, after nearly three weeks in bed or on the couch, I’d been given the all-clear to go outside. And I was eager to see how much work had been accomplished with the cabins. The Alphas paid me a visit four days after I’d become comatose. At that point I was able to stay awake for a couple of hours before needing a nap. I’d explained to them what I saw, and they told me about their original thoughts and plans that Jeffers said wouldn’t work. I’d scoffed at that, knowing their original plans had been on the right track. At that point, thought brought me the blueprints, topographical maps, and any other piece of information they had about the systems they’d already installed. And by the next day, we’d come up with a plan and stages in which to do things. I was so excited. This was the type of plumbing I’d always wanted to do.

“Ready to go play in the snow?” Noel wrapped his arms around my waist and pressed his cold lips to my neck, making me squirm.

“Yes.” I chuckled. “I remember having so much fun, well, until Amber.”

“Grr. Don’t mention her name. She has a bad habit of showing up unexpectedly, like she’s been summoned.”

I shrugged, not really caring. Yes, she cursed me. Attacked someone she’d never met, someone she knew nothing about, but I wasn’t worried about her anymore. Nor could she bother me. The men she wanted were no longer available.

They were mine.

And we christened just about every surface in this house, proving it.

But besides that, I had a secret weapon. All my study about magic paid off. Even though I was new to having access to it, I already had more knowledge than many adult witches. And since Parsley had been tutoring me whenever she visited, I was leaps and bounds above where I should be. So just let, Amber try something. She would fare well.

“Yes, please don’t say her name. It’s been nice not having her pop in since the Alphas laid down the law, telling people that our cabin was quarantined until further notice.” Teddy kissed my other cheek as he examined me, looking for any hint that I might not be ready to leave the house.

“Relax. I’m feeling great,” I told him for what felt like the one hundredth time this morning.” I wrapped my fingers around his and smiled to take the sting out of my words.

“I know. I’m sorry. I’m being so overprotective.”

I yanked on his hand, bringing him close enough the I could cradle his cheek with my other. “Don’t ever apologize for caring. I love it. I love you.” I kissed his lips, slipping my tongue into his mouth. He moaned and Noel tightened his hold on my waist as he hardened against my back.

“Keep it up love, and you won’t be going anywhere but between us.”

I pulled away from Teddy to brush a kiss Noel’s lips. “Later. First, we play outside.”

“If you say so, but sex in the snow is a little cold.”

I turned to mock glare at Freddy as the others laughed. And when his eyes widened in faux shock, I stuck my tongue out at him, using Noel and Teddy as shields as I ran to the door. The moment I crossed the threshold, I shifted, knowing I’d be harder to catch.

“Run little pussy cat, but you can’t hide. This big cat is coming after you.”

“Doesn’t he mean big pussy?”

I chuckled to myself as I watched my three men shift and come bounding down the stairs to play in the snow with me. And once I was tired out, I’d beg them for some more hot buttered rum. It never failed to make things interesting.

Who would have thought a month ago after answering a phone call that my life would change so much? Even if you told me, I wouldn’t have believed it. In fact, I nearly didn’t answer the call from the “unknown number” but am I ever glad I did.

TB Mann, also known as Twilah, is a Canadian author. As a mom of three extremely smart adult children, she and her amazing husband are now in a new stage of life. One where they get to put their focus back on being a couple instead of splitting that time with raising a family.

As a self-proclaimed descent of mermaids and selkies, she loves to breathe in salt air, watch the waves roll in, and dip her toes into the water. When she’s not doing that—hopefully on some Caribbean beach—she’s watching hockey, some other sporting event, attending a theatrical or musical performance, or watching television with a book on her lap.

Life hasn’t always been easy, but like her books, she believes that the love and support of family and friends can allow you to do anything whether the family is by blood or by choice.
