“O-o-o-kay.” Annie says, “I’ll see myself out. See ya later.”

“Wait—Annie.” Milla speaks for the first time during this entire exchange, and her voice cracks on her best friend’s name. “You’re my ride.”

Annie and I look at each other, and I nod. “I’m sure you have one.”

With that, she walks away, leaving me with Camilla—alone.

Camilla looks at me for what feels like a very long time but surely is just a few seconds, and I lower my chin to get closer to her. My fingers brush strands of hair away from her face, giving in to some sick fucking urge. She stiffens. It’s subtle, but it’s there, and I drop my hand like I’ve been burned.

“What are you doing here?” she asks with a low, trembling voice. So I scare her now.Perfect.

“I wanted to see you.” I shrug nonchalantly like it’s ordinary to show up in places she’s at without being invited first.

“Are you stalking me?” Her voice is hoarse now, shaking even more. “Oh, God, you are. You’restalkingme.”

Camilla takes a step back and I grab her by the arm, pulling her back in until she crashes into my chest. I turn her around and pin her against the wall with my hips, caging her in with my arms on either side of her head. She’s entirely at my mercy, and I love it. So much that I’m sure she knows it by now as well.

“I don’t stalk, princess.” My voice is soft, betraying how I really feel. I’m hard in other places, which shouldn’t be happening right now. It’s the position. “I merely followed you here.”

“So… you stalked me.”

“You were easy to find.” I lean in close to her, my lips against the shell of her ear. “Maybe don’t be next time.”

I pull away and run my fingertips down her bare arms, which are already covered in goosebumps. “Let me take you out, Camilla.”

“Now you want to take me out?” she asks, “What happened to talking?”

“I don’t want to talk,” I tell her. “I already know everything I need to know about you, remember?”

“I can’t risk anyone seeing us on a date,” she replies, which only irritates me.

“It’ll be okay,” I reply. “Unless you want to eat in my car?”

“I mean, you have to give me a ride anyway, right?”

“Right.” I nod once.

“Okay,” she sighs. “I’ll eat in the car, but only because I’m starving.”

We head out to the parking lot, walking slowly with her slippers, and I consider giving her a piggyback ride. It looks uncomfortable to walk like that. She looks down at her shoes then at the gravel road, seemingly angry. “Do you want me to carry you?” I ask her.

“Absolutely not.” Camilla looks a little lost and confused for a moment, “Damn it. Annie took my bag so I can’t change out of these clothes either way. You might as well take me home.”

“No one will know who you are dressed like that, Milla. Let’s just eat somewhere good and I’ll take you out another time.”

“Good, like what?”

“Chick-fil-A?”

She starts laughing, “Youeat the Lord’s chicken?”

“The Lord’s, what now?”

“That’s what I call it, never mind,” she says with a chuckle.

I want in on the inside joke, though. “Is it because they’re a Christian facility?”

“Yes.” She bites her bottom lip, making me want to pull it down. “And you’re a sinner.”
