Me: Love you, babe.

Emory: Love you. XO

“Do I even want to know why you have that shit-eating grin on your face?” Alec questioned.

I shook my head. “Probably not.”

“I’m gonna go grab us some breakfast from Bo’s.” Gabe pulled out his cell. “What do you all want?”

We all placed our order, then waited.

Six hours later, we’d come up with a rudimentary plan of attack. First thing was to get eyes and ears on Maxwell. He was the wild card in the equation. Joel would be traveling with the senator on the campaign trail, so his whereabouts were less of a question. Next, Alec would contact one of his sources in Vegas to schedule a sit-down with the loan shark. Our hope was we could convince him to put the squeeze on Maxwell for the money he owed. It might be the push we need to make him frantic enough so he reaches out to his little terrorist buddies with more information to sell. Then we’d have him dead to rights.

We were finishing up putting the last player in place when an alert notice went off on my phone. I pulled up the camera feed and cursed.

“Is that Emory’s apartment?” Rico asked over my shoulder.

“Yes.”

“Does she know you have cameras on her?”

“She knows they are there,” I answered.

He roared with laughter. “Oh my God, this is gonna be so much fun.”

“What’s gonna be fun?” Alec asked.

“Luc has Emory’s apartment under surveillance.”

“Please tell me you didn’t,” Gabe muttered, lowering his head to his hands.

“Damn, Fratello,” Alec snickered. “You. Are. Fucked.”

“Hold up. Isn’t that the drunk parent from the school?” Rico asked.

I’d told them all the story about what transpired between Emory and Martin Jacobs, so they knew to be on the lookout. Right now though, the son of a bitch was pacing back and forth at the bottom of her stairs and from the way he stumbled, I’d say he hadn’t cleaned up his act.

“Call Caleb now, Gabe. Tell him to send some units to Emory’s.”

Grabbing my keys as I rushed out of the conference room, my brothers on my heels, I tried to call my girl but it went straight to voicemail.Dammit.If that bastard touched one hair on her head, I’d break every bone in his body.

EMORY

I COULDN’T FEELmy face. Luc was going to be so upset, and it was all Quin’s fault. She’d been refilling my drink without my knowledge ever since he’d texted earlier, saying he would be late. Okay…that was a lie. She and River hadbothbeen plying me with an obscene amount of alcohol to loosen my lips about my own personal sex god. They were some seriously nosey bitches, but I loved them to pieces.

“All right, so in terms of size, are we talking cucumber or eggplant?”

River spewed her drink all over the floor.

“Jesus, Quin. Warn a girl next time.” She got off the sofa to grab a towel.

I giggled, but held my tongue.

“Rico’s is pierced.”

“What?” I choked.

“Never again will I tell you something in confidence, Quinlan James.” River stared daggers at our young friend.
