“I DON’T HAVEanything to wear,” she yawned, walking into my place as soon as I opened the door.

Rico, Luc, and I had each rented an apartment in an old converted Victorian house when we moved to Mountain Grove. Rico moved in with River and if I knew my brother, Luc would be with Emory before too long.

“I’ve got a shirt you can use.”

Tossing my keys on the counter, I turned to give her a tour and found her mid-yawn, practically sleeping on her feet.

“Let’s get you to bed, baby. You’re exhausted.”

My apartment was the only two-bedroom in the building, however, the spare room was currently being used for storage. Luckily my lease was up in six months, giving me enough time to find something bigger before the baby arrived. The only issue would be convincing Quin to move in with me before then.

I took her hand and led her down the short hallway to my room. It was nothing fancy—a king-size bed, a wooden dresser, and a nightstand on either side—but it was comfortable. Rummaging through one of the drawers, I pulled out one of my old Army T-shirts then returned to her side.

“Bathroom is through that door.” I pointed to the right. “There’s an extra toothbrush in the drawer by the sink you can use. Take your time. I’m gonna go lock up.”

I kissed her quickly, then left to give her privacy and check in with my brothers. Entering the living room, I took my cell phone from my back pocket, sat on the sofa, and pulled up our group thread.

Me: Had an SUV on my tail tonight.

Gabe: Make? Model?

Rico: Did you get a plate number for me?

Me: It was too dark and I had Quin with me, so I couldn’t exactly let it get closer.

Luc: Who’d you piss off lately?

Rico: Think it was Keaton?

Rico said exactly what I’d been thinking. Quattro didn’t have any major cases we were working on at present, beyond a few cybersecurity ones he was dealing with.

Me: He’d be my first guess.

Gabe: Do you want me to call Waverly?

Me: Not yet.

Luc: He’s signed up for another training in two weeks.

Rico: The kid has balls. I’ll give him that much.

Gabe: He’s your age, Rico. Are you finally admitting you’re a child?

Rico: Fuck off, Fratello. Speaking of children…how was your date with your baby mama, Alec?

Me: Still ongoing, and never call her that again.

Luc: Way to go!

Gabe: Lock her down, just like Pop said.

Me: Listen, I walked in on some stuff at her house and it threw me.

Rico: What kind of stuff?

Luc: Do we need to be worried?

Me: Quin hasn’t exactly been truthful with the girls about her home situation. It’s complicated and not something I’m going to discuss before she’s had the chance to come clean. Let me talk to her first.
