I pull up to the valet and step out of my car, pausing to look around and see if Connor has arrived before handing the driver my keys. No sign of him.

“Phew. Okay, Hadley, just take a deep breath. You’ve got this,” I whisper to myself, pulling in a steadying breath to calm my nerves.

That’s when I notice the mouthwatering red Tesla Model S Plaid pull up next to me. My God, is it possible to be turned on by a car? Because, damn, it’s beautiful. So beautiful, in fact, it nearly distracts me from the gorgeous specimen that emerges from the driver’s seat. The instant our eyes meet, a panty-dropping smile covers his face and my brain short-circuits.

Oh. Dear.

“Hadley, a mhuirnín. You look even more breathtaking in person.” His thick brogue sends a rush of heat to my core.

Oh. My. God. That accent is going to be my undoing.

Connor makes his way around the car, exposing his bespoke black suit bit by mouthwatering bit. Damn, that thing fits like a glove, each inch of black fabric tailored to his body perfectly. It’s difficult not to notice, even from where I stand, that he is ridiculously fit. His arms are the size of my thighs, and he towers over my five-foot-six frame by at least a foot.

He turns to speak to the valet, giving me a peek at that glorious ass. Damn it, maybe I do want to sleep with him if this is where my mind is going already.

He approaches me hesitantly, a warm smile on his face. He leans in for an embrace, and I wrap my arms around his back for a brief moment, breathing in his intoxicating scent of sandalwood and lavender before releasing him. The contact feels nice, stirring up feelings deep inside my core that I haven’t felt in months.

All from one little hug? Jeez, Hadley, get a hold of yourself.

“Connor, you are…wow. Yeah, your pictures don’t do you justice either.” I giggle, feeling heat rush across my face and chest.

Did I really just say that?

Chuckling, he responds, his words laced with desire. “Oh, a mhuirnín. Shall we?”

Placing a gentle hand on the small of my back, he leads me inside.

Well, shit.

Connor maneuvers me into a quiet room off the main dining area. Looking around, I take note of how private and romantic it feels. Wait, unless…oh, no. Nick and the Captain would be so disappointed in me.

“Are you going to kill me in here?” I blurt out, realizing I’ve probably listened to theTrue Crime Garagepodcast one too many times after the words escape my lips.

A deep laugh bursts from his chest and a sinful smile plays on his lips. He raises a brow at me.

“What? Of course not. Why would you think that?”

“It’s just that…the first time we meet, a private room?” I shake my head nervously. “Never mind. Don’t mind me. I’ve just listened to one too many true crime podcasts,” I ramble, twisting my hands in embarrassment.

Connor smiles down at me sweetly.

“Gorgeous, I just want to get to know you.” His voice is gentle with that sinfully delicious brogue as he continues. “Without worrying that someone will come up to talk about business tonight. If you’d feel more comfortable, I will happily take you back to one of the tables in the main dining room.”

Oh, heaven help me, I think as my heart melts.

Chapter Five

CONNOR

When I pulled up and saw her standing by the entrance, my heart nearly leaped out of my chest. I knew she was beautiful from the photos in her profile, but holy shite. She’s lost quite a bit of weight since most of those were taken; however, she’s still breathtaking. And the way she looks in that sweater should be illegal. My cock strained against the silk blend of my trousers, and I paused for a second to adjust myself before exiting the car.

Standing in the private dining room several moments later, Hadley wearing that worried expression, I attempt to assure her I honestly have no ulterior motive apart from avoiding people I know. Not because I want to hide her—I mean, fuck, look at her—but I just need some time to get to know her.

I stand nervously, second-guessing myself as she takes her time considering my offer of getting a table in the main room.

A sweet smile pulls at her lips as she shakes her head. “It’s okay. I’m flattered that you want to give me your undivided attention.”

“I’m glad, a mhuirnín. I know I said this already, but you are truly stunning.”
