“Well yes, but it’s much more complicated than that.”

“Huh. That makes sense.” Quentin starts walking again and I hurry behind him.

We’ve lost Shelby and Daniel at this point. They’re far ahead of us on the trail but it loops around so we’re bound to catch up with them on the way back to the car. I pick up my speed to try to keep up with Quentin who’s way more in shape than I am—a definite advantage climbing uphill at this altitude.

“Why does that make sense?”

“You reading that makes sense.”

“Why?”

“You just seem optimistic. Probably believe it all ends in fairytale weddings and happily ever afters, right?”

“I mean sure. I think they happen to some people. I hope good things happen to me. Is that wrong to hope for?”

“Nah. It makes sense is all.”

“This another dig at me for having parents with money?”

“No. Just a dig at your optimism. But hey if you’re lucky, you’ll end up married to Xander, right? You can tell him you saved yourself for him. Wear the white dress.”

“I don’t want to save myself for him. After our conversation last night, I’d rather he not know at all.”

Quentin turns his head back over his shoulder and gives me a skeptical look.

“Oh, he’ll know.”

“How?”

Quentin stops dead in his tracks.

“You’ve taken sex ed, right?”

“Yes, I’ve taken sex ed.” I glare at him.

“You’re aware you can bleed?”

“Sometimes but not always. I’ve done my research.”

“Even if you don’t. It’ll be obvious you’re not experienced.”

“I can fake it. Fake it until you make it, right?”

Another skeptical look appears on his face and it irks me.

“He’ll know. If you don’t tell him and he figures it out—thatwillpiss him off. Given how close he and Tobias are… If you take any advice from me, take that.”

“If I tell him I’m inexperienced, he definitely won’t want me.”

“Exactly.”

I bite my bottom lip to keep it from quivering. Getting laid for the first time is apparently a lot like getting your first job. Everyone wants experience before they’ll give you a shot and no one but assholes want to give it to you. When Quentin doesn’t hear me following him he stops and turns back.

“Come on. I don’t want to lose you too.”

“No. Go ahead.” I huff.

Quentin sighs and walks back to me. “I’m just trying to be honest with you.”
