“Got it. Lose my virginity to some guy in a hostel dorm that I’ll never see again.”

“I didn’t say that. I just… find a guy that’s not Xander. At least at first. Experiment. Figure out what you want. What you like. Then come back around and try to have that experience with the guy you’re obsessed with.”

“I am not obsessed.”

“Pining over. Crushing on. Whatever you want to call it.”

I narrow my eyes at him, but I can’t help thinking he might have a point. Doing this or at least some of this with someone else first would be less pressure. Less stress to get it all right if I could just be honest about where I am and the amount of experience I have—which is virtually none.

“Fine.” I relent.

“Fine.” He repeats. “Now stay with me. I don’t want you getting attacked by a mountain lion or falling again. You heard the ranger. They’ve been spotted a lot around here lately.”

“You,” I say it with more confidence than I feel. He did say he was more likely to be interested than Xander though, so it’s worth a shot.

“Me?” His brow furrows for a moment and then his face blanches. “No. No way.” He turns and starts to walk away.

“I’m not saying you have to take my V-card. I just mean the chance to see if it seems like it’s obvious that I’m inexperienced.”

He gives me a sidelong glance before he walks off again. “No.”

“So you’ll just let me struggle along then. When you could help.” I hurry after him.

“Why would I help you?” He calls behind him.

“I helped you!” I call after him.

“You already cashed that in when you asked for advice.”

“You were grumpy when you got here. Flailing in the awkwardness really and pouting in a corner. Then panicking at the idea of Tobias sending you off to a hotel. I gave you an out. Help when you needed it. You could save me from the awkwardness too.”

He stops in his tracks and puts his hand over his mouth for a moment before he turns to look at me. There’s an accusation in his eyes. Annoyance that I’m bringing it up when we’d pretty much had a silent agreement. But we’re alone in this forest right now and I don’t see any reason to pretend it isn’t this way. He relents. I see it change his face the moment he does.

“What exactly do you want me to do?” He asks reluctantly.

Quentin

“Just…try a few things with me. Give me your honest opinion. If I suck. If it’s as obvious as you say it’ll be.”

Fuck do I want her to try things on me. She can use me however she wants. But I’m not going to be a good judge on this for her. Because whether or not she’ll be good for Xander isn’t something I’m going to be thinking about.

“I already know you don’t have experience.” I counter, trying to get her—and me—to see reason.

“Right. So you can’t be mad.” She grins at me. “And you won’t judge me if it sucks. It’s a good solution.”

“Madison…” I sigh. “I’m still Tobias’s friend.”

“Quentin—again, do you want to be that guy? That treats me different because you know my brother? I don’t think you do. Plus… just pretend I’m not.”

“That’s hard to do.”

“Just imagine I’m some other woman.”

“Again…”

“Oh please. Like you don’t mess around with dozens of women. I’ll just be one of them. It’s fine.”
