“What’s that?”

“I’m quitting this week.”

“What?”

“I’ll give them a few weeks’ notice to bring someone else on, but Bea and I are starting our own thing sooner than planned.”

My heart bottoms out. “Not to be a prick, but I think I regret giving you that check this morning a little bit.”

“No. You giving me that check made me realize I don’t want to buy that property. But I had to talk to Bea first. And it turns out she doesn’t really want to leave either. So we’re not doing it.” She pulls the check out of her purse and rips it in half.

I’m stunned speechless. “You’re not leaving?”

“No. We’re going to start our own PR company here in town. She’s got Cooper on board already, and Easton will come over of course. I’m thinking if I can get a certain quarterback to sign up… it might be enough to get things started. Bea and I can figure it out from there, but there are enough teams here in the city and within a couple of hours that I think we’ll do well.”

“Holy fuck, Madness. You gotta lead with that next time.” I set her down on her feet and kiss her again.

“Does that mean you’ll be my client?”

“I don’t know.”

“You don’t know?” Her face falters.

“I mean if you’re going to have the same rules about no fraternization, I’m out. Now that you’re free and quitting the Chaos, I plan on convincing you to actually date me in public.”

“Oh.” She laughs. “I mean, we can figure that part out.”

“I’m happy to pay extra. Sign an NDA. Whatever you need, boss.” I grin at her, and she slaps my arm playfully.

“Stop! It’s not like that.”

“It’s absolutely like that.”

She rolls her eyes and goes to grab her purse. “You’re terrible. Also, we’d better go. You’re going to be wanted at the team party after the game. You’ll be the main attraction.”

“Which means hours of chatting and being out, when all I want to do is get my newly single girl home so I can devour her.”

“We don’t have to stay long. Just an hour or two.”

“Yeah. I don’t think I can wait. I think the public version of us starts now.”

“I have to give my notice first. We’re still going to have to be careful. A.J. and I need to make things officially over with a statement. There are loose ends to tie up.”

I glance behind me at the door before I turn the small knob. “Good thing this door locks.”

Her eyes shift up to meet mine, a question in them.

“Quentin…”

“Madison…”

“If we get caught…”

“We won’t get caught. Not if we’re quick. And the risk is minimal now. You’re a single woman starting her own business.”

She bites her lower lip and glances around before her eyes meet mine again, fresh desire in them, and I can tell from the color rising on her cheeks she loves the idea. I kiss her then, wrapping my hands around her sides and backing her up to the counter that runs the length of the suite, looking out over the field.

“Slip out of those jeans for me and turn around.”
