“Want some bread, Lucas?” he calls out.

Lucas replies with a grunt and then Ollie looks at me. “Want some?”

I nod even though I’m not hungry. As Ollie spreads butter and jam over the uneven cuts of bread, I run a hand down my face.

“So, Jai kissed me,” I blurt.

Ollie freezes and then nods. “I’m not surprised. He’s had a crush on you forever.”

“He has? Fuck, I thought we were friends.”

“I mean, you are, but he has it bad. He’s been asking me about our open room.”

My heart stutters in my chest. “What? When was this?”

“Last week. I think he wants to get out of his aunt’s house and was asking me about rent and stuff. I think he’s considering it. Or he was. Maybe he’ll change his mind after the kiss.”

“Yeah. Shit. I don’t know what happened. But he just kissed me. Probably didn’t help that my dick was giving him all sorts of mixed signals.”

And fuck, just like I told him, I would if I could. But I don’t want him like that. I can’t force those feelings into place. And Jai is one of my closest friends. I don’t want things to be ruined between us.

“It can do that sometimes,” Ollie says and then frowns. “Why were you over there baking bread?”

“I’m trying to find a new hobby.”

“Ah. One that doesn’t include dick-sucking?” he asks.

“Yeah, no dicks.” I don’t mention tongues or asses. Ollie doesn’t need to know that. That’s too much information for someone who blathers on and on like a leaking sieve. I don’t need anyone knowing that part of me, that hidden secret buried so deep down within me that even I’m scared of it.

It’s a secret only Alec knows.

Fuck. Heknows.

“Well, I mean, you can get into gardening.”

“Ugh, I hate bugs.”

“Bugs can be your friends.”

“Not my friends,” I mutter, and then Ollie hands me a slice of bread.

I take a large bite and my eyes roll back in my head. Fuck, this is damn good.

“Did you make this jam?” I ask.

Ollie shakes his head. “No. I wish. I can’t quite manage a good batch.”

I sigh, finishing off the entire slice before wiping my sticky face and hands on a paper towel.

Ollie’s disappeared into the other room, his body now pressed against Lucas, who just takes the snuggling like an oversized dog who’s been saddled with an overly cuddly cat.

“You could make cookies,” Lucas says suddenly, and I nearly jump from how unexpected his voice is.

“What?” I ask, taking a seat opposite the two of them.

“Ollie said you sucked at making bread, but what about cookies?”

I mull that over in my head. “Maybe. I could try.”
