“Well, I dunno. I tried baking bread and then cookies. Wasn’t good at either of those…”

“Oh, do you want ideas? I have lots of those.”

“I don’t know if I want your ideas, Ollie.”

He grins at me and then hops down from the table and presses into me. “How about we learn origami, or how to make sushi? Oh my god, we could learn Japanese.”

“That’s like a real hobby, Ollie. I don’t know if I’m committed enough to manage.”

I peel his hands off of me as my phone beeps, and I glance down at it, seeing that Jai has responded.

“Oh, Jai,” Ollie says as he peers over at my screen. “He talked to me about moving in here again, did you know that? Just like this morning. Was asking me about rent and when he could.”

My brows meet because Jai never mentioned that to me. But maybe he was rethinking his decision to become my roommate after I turned him down. Not that I really turned him down. I mean, I did offer the blow job.

“No, he didn’t tell me that.”

“Hm, well, I mean, I told him it could happen whenever. We have the spare room open now that Wesley is gone, and I know he wants to get out of his aunt’s house. Although, I don’t know why. She makes the best food.”

“She does,” I agree as I tap back a response to him. He replies almost immediately. “He’s coming over later tonight. Gonna play some video games with me, if you wanna join.”

“Oh, you bet I do,” Ollie says with a pump of his fist. “Gonna get ready for work. Can I catch a ride?”

I nod and then eat something quickly while Ollie changes. As I chew, my mind slides back to Alec. I definitely shouldn’ttext him. That’s not what this is about, and yet, I do it anyways. My fingers have a mind of their own. As does my dick. Pretty soon, my entire body will stage a coup and I’ll be helpless to do anything but go with it.

Me:I threw the cage away. Just so you know.

I stare at my message, a picture of my cock locked up sitting just above it and feel my cheeks flush. Well, hell. Now, I feel stupid. But it’s too late to dwell on it. Ollie bounds down the stairs a moment later and latches on to my back. And try as I might to get him off, he hangs on like a koala as I carry him to my car.

When we’re at work, I keep busy, my mind only occasionally drifting to Alec. I’m onlythinkingof him, not drawing dicks on everything, so that is an improvement. But I do obsessively check my phone when we’re between customers or there’s a lull in the line.

Alec hasn’t responded. Not even a passive-aggressive thumbs-up.

Just nothing.

Which sends me majorly spiraling by the time work is over. It doesn’t help that I have a happy, chattering Ollie next to me the whole way home.

“You know what I was thinking about at work?” he begins, and I bite back a groan at what I know is coming.

“What were you thinking about, man?”

“Bees. I mean, you know we’re like close to environmental extinction because we keep killing them off, right?”

I sigh and mentally tune him out as he blathers on about bees and something about Easter Island until we finally pull up to the house. Jai is waiting on the porch, looking a little sullen and shy, his hair hanging over his face, his posture a bit slumped. I hate that he looks so forlorn, so I pretend like nothing happened. Likehe never kissed me, like I never offered to suck his dick again to make him feel better.

That’s what I like to do. Pretend. I’m the best at it.

“Glad you’re here, dude,” I say as I pull him into a hug.

He pats my back awkwardly and steps away. “Yeah, no problem. Brought more bread for you.”

He looks embarrassed bringing it up, but thankfully, Ollie is right there, grabbing it from his hands and stuffing his nose right into the linen covering the loaf.

“Oh god, I have the perfect honey for this.”

Jai manages a wobbly smile as we both follow Ollie into the kitchen. He sets the loaf onto the counter and grabs a knife.

“Jai, grab the honey from the pantry. Not the one with the red top, but the one with the blue one. Got it at the farmers market and it isdivine.”
