He rolls his eyes into his head as if having an orgasm, and I shudder at the thought as Jai moves to grab the honey from the pantry. When he finally has it, he hands it to Ollie, who slathers butter and honey onto the bread and then hands us each a large slice. I’m not even that hungry, but I eat it anyways because I just want Jai to feel better. And Ollie’s right. The bread and honey are amazing.

Fuck. Why did he kiss me? And why don’t I want him?

Because you’re not gay. You’re not.

“What’s that smell?” Lucas asks, lumbering in. He’s wearing a shirt this time, thank god, but for some reason is bleeding from his forearm.

I roll my eyes because this is the norm for him, but Jai is frowning and looking slightly disconcerted.

“Why are you bleeding?” he asks, moving toward Lucas and touching his arm gingerly.

“Just a mishap with the tools,” Lucas responds, his eyes widening a bit and his cheeks flushing at Jai’s touch.

What the hell? Lucas does not blush. Am I the only one seeing this?

Maybe I am because Ollie doesn’t seem to notice, and Jai is too focused on the open wound, his dark hair falling into his eyes as he moves to grab a paper towel.

“Lucas, seriously. We need to get you cleaned up,” he says and then meets Lucas’s gaze. “And none of this manly ‘I don’t need help’ crap. I don’t want your arm falling off.”

Lucas grumbles as Jai leads him from the kitchen toward the bathroom, leaving Ollie and me alone.

“God, man, that was so awkward, right? Good thing Lucas showed up when he did or I was going to have to pontificate about whales and no one wants that,” Ollie says around a mouthful of bread. “I can do a great whale impression though. Wanna hear?”

I huff a laugh and run a hand down my face. “No. But thanks.”

“You sure? Because it’s eerily accurate?”

I begin to respond, but a sudden knock on the door has us freezing.

“You expecting someone?” he asks before adding in a low whale sound.

Itiseerily like a deep ocean dive. Creepy, if you ask me.

“No, you?”

“No. I wish. Maybe it’s a hot billionaire who wants to bone me,” he says as he bounds off to answer the door. But a hot billionaire it is not. A moment later, Alec walks into the kitchen, looking positively sinful with his tight shirt accentuating his muscles and his form-fitting pants.

You know, if you’re into that kind of thing.

His eyes meet mine, and he wets his lips. It makes every part of me thrum with something I can’t explain. Something I don’t want to explain.

“Hi,” I whisper just as Jai and Lucas return. Lucas is sporting a bandage on his arm and Jai is talking softly to him, but as soon as Jai sees Alec, his shoulders straighten and his words sputter off.

“I was just here to check on your water heater,” he says, and I glance at my roommates.

“I didn’t know we had an issue with it, did you guys?” I ask and all of them just shake their heads.

His jaw works, and he glances away. “My grandpa said it was something I should check. I’m just gonna take a look. Want to show me where it is, Jude?”

My heart beats quicker. Oh fuck, don’t get me alone with him. Who knows what he’ll do to me?

“Uh, yeah. I can totally do that.”

I’m a liar. I have no idea where the water heater is. Is it in the attic?

But thankfully, Ollie notices my panic and mouthsin the garageso I stumble toward it, feeling like an overeager puppy finding a bone.

A boner.
