Becca enfolded her in an awkward hug, sitting sideways with the huge bump between them. “Ourmother’s death. You can’t think that way, a life for a life.”

“The wolves sure do.”

Becca rocked her a little. “This is not your fault. This is not yours to fix. The aunts will deal with them, and everything can go back to normal.”

Goldie shook her head. “What if I don’t want it to go back to normal?”

Becca’s hands dropped. “Is this about the wolf?”

“Aiden.” Goldie smiled. “Aiden Scott. Remember the K-9 detective series I tried to make you read?”

Becca’s eyes rounded. “Aiden Scott is a werewolf from West Virginia?”

“He does write the dog extremely well.”

Becca burst out laughing. “Did you and he?—”

Goldie tore out of her hold and stood up. “It wasn’t like that. He didn’t take advantage.” She was about to protest that he paid her in chairs but had a funny feeling that wouldn’t go over well.

“You and he?—”

“He’s perfect.” Goldie spun to look down into the shop, unable to meet her sister’s eyes. “He’s perfect, and he’s got this wolf that’s out of control, and his mother’s a witch.”

“What?” Becca jumped to her feet. “His mother is a witch, and he’s a werewolf?”

Goldie cranked her lips into a smile. “What, like you thought you were the only one?”

They had. They all thought Becca’s first child was the only witch/shifter in existence.

“You said his wolf is out of control?” Becca asked, her hand gripping her bump where a little boy with a wolf for a father was growing.

“But it listens to me. So it’s not that bad…”

“Thewolflistens to you?” Becca said, shouting as loud as she could.

Goldie nodded, remembering Andie and Elliot’s shock when she’d confessed this the moment she’d gotten into town.

“Gold, Dan’s wolf talks to me,” Becca said. “It’s one sign of a true mate.”

“That is not a thing,” Goldie said immediately.

“Not a thing? You’re surrounded by them!”

Goldie thought back to the whispers of sensation and flickers of visions she received from Aiden’s wolf. Was Becca right? Did it mean something more?

“Aiden didn’t harm you?” Becca asked.

“He tried to protect me.”

“But he kept you from us.”

“He asked me to stay away until we could make peace, and he could protect his pack.”

“And you really can control his wolf? Not just chat about rabbits and smells?”

“Is that what you and Dan talk about?” Goldie asked with a laugh.

“Dan’s wolf and me, yeah.”
