“Now look at me, fuckhead. I’m your reaper today. Anyone who ever touches her or so much as looks at her wrong, gets to die,” Kieran spat out. “Have a nice fall.”

I gasped, the sound making my throat protest as Kieran shoved Vincent straight out the open window. He stepped forward, staring down to watch the man plummet to his death.

When he finally looked back at me, there was a sinister, twisted smile on his face that made me feel all sorts of weird things.

He quickly covered it before striding over to me and kneeling down.

“He’s dead, princess. And you are safe. Matteo and Mario have paid the price for their attack, along with all those who followed them here today.”

I just closed my eyes, wishing I could wake up from this entire nightmare.

“We need to get Thomas help, he’s lost a lot of blood,” Enzo spoke up, and I snapped my eyes open.

“Hank’s already got the doctor and a team on the way to clean this whole mess up,” Zane stated before scooping me up into his arms. “I think we should move you to another room where you can rest until the doctor arrives. Enzo, go clean up once the team gets here, same with you, Kieran. She’s seen enough blood for a lifetime.”

He wasn’t wrong there, but I stared at Thomas, at the way his head had lolled to the side as he stared at me, a strange comfort in their depths.

He had to survive this.

We needed to be survivors together.

“Thanks for saving my ass, amore mio,” Enzo said as he nodded at me.

I managed a weak smile, wishing I could say I was just returning the favor but knowing words were beyond me right now.

I closed my eyes, allowing the last of my adrenaline to fade away, every nerve-ending of my being exhausted and drained. How they lived this life so easily, acting in an instant and not crumbling blew me away.

I could only hope I would reach their level.

Because despite it all, as I was cradled against Zane’s chest, the metallic stench of blood and the unsettling sensation of death all around, I knew this was where I intended to stay.

These men would not only kill for me.

They’d die for me.

And I was just as wicked as them for loving that.

I’d even killed for them.

I sat in Zane’s room, staring at my hands. Enzo had brought me into the bathroom, running the bath and sitting in the warm water with me once he’d cleaned himself off mostly in the sink.

I wasn’t sure why he’d done it, maybe in an attempt to relieve me of the trembling that had claimed my body, but I was a mess. I didn’t register much until he’d set me on the bed, now wrapped in a fresh robe while he got dressed. Kieran had called to himfrom the doorway, the doctor and a team were here, Thomas was being worked on and bodies were being removed. They’d lost several of their security detail, but Hank was okay, which I was grateful for. It was only then that I learned Zane had taken a bullet, but it was sorted and already patched up. Thomas’ had been more threatening, but the doctor was positive he’d be fine.

“Hey, it’s okay, Vee,” Enzo said gently as he kneeled before me, massaging my knees.

“I killed him,” I said, the words croaky but not as painful as I turned my hands over. The doctor had come in and given me something for the pain, which was quickly kicking in thankfully. I’d be fine, just bruised for a while, and I needed to keep talking to a minimum.

Enzo sighed as he took my hands in his. “You killed to protect those you care about. He has killed so many people, and innocent ones at that. You did the world a favor.”

“I still killed,” I whispered hoarsely.

“You saved us,piccolo lupo.”

I finally lifted my gaze, the tremors in my hands settling as he traced soft circles on the back of them.

“What does that mean?”

“Little wolf. You’re not a mouse. You’re a wolf, someone who protects their family.”
