Tate nods. "Yep. I was sent out to a club by his concerned friends. I get there and Gus is working the stripper pole like he's auditioning forMagic Mike."

Okay, that's definitely something I would do. One for thehe could be my dadcolumn.

Col chuckles and eyes Gus, who's in his late forties but super hot with a classically handsome face, thick dark hair with no hint of grey, and intense green eyes.

Unless he's my biological father, in which case he's not attractive in the slightest.

"Gus went through a partying phase after his scumbag ex cheated on him at their wedding."

"Oh no," I say, and Col gasps in shock.

"It was awful," Gus says, shaking his head. "But at least I found out early on."

"That's true." Col waves his fork in agreement.

"Anyway, we had quite the journey to get to where we are now," Gus says, looking over at Tate, and you canseethe love they have for each other.

"It wasn't easy?" I ask.

"No, it wasn't," Tate says, holding Gus's gaze. "But it was so worth it."

They fill us in on a few more details and, yeah, okay, they weren't lying. They had a lot of obstacles to overcome—an almost two-decade age gap, a few rounds of fake dating, Tate being poly while Gus was all about monogamy, family drama, meddling vet friends, and a whole lot more.

As we're wrapping up dessert, Gus clears his throat and sends me a serious look.

Okay. This is it. I think he's about to get into it. I could potentially have my world rocked for the second time in as many days.

"So, Wilby," he begins. "I have some news."

"I figured."

I dart my gaze between him and Tate for any signs of… Are they happy? Sad? What should I be preparing myself for here?

They're both annoyingly unreadable like Col used to be at the start. Maybe it's an American male-face thing? Who knows?

"The paternity test came back, and…" He takes a breath. "I am your biological father."

"Huh. Okay… Cool?"

He looks at me nervously. "Yeah. Cool?"

"I think so. Yeah. I mean, you're great. And hot…which I will never call you again. And, yeah, you seem decent."

"I can vouch for him on the decent front," Tate says with a warm smile.

"I know this is a lot to take in, which is why I wanted to tell you face-to-face. And also, so we're clear, this doesn't have to mean anything. Whether we stay in touch or not, if we become closer or not, that's all up to you."

"Wh-what would you like?"

He smiles. "I'll tell you, but please don't let this affect your decision. I'm open to us having a relationship. I'm still getting used to the fact that I'm someone's father rather than just a sperm donor, and that my son is only a few years younger than my husband, but I'm willing to work through all that. You seem like a great person, Wilby."

I throw aback me up here pleaseglance at Col.

"Yeah, yeah, I'll vouch for ya," he says, grinning.

I look back at Gus, my father, and nod. "Cool."

He nods back at me. "Cool."
