“And your first question is if I’m injured?” he asked.

I nodded again. “My patients are my first priority.”

“None of us were injured,” Kieran answered and walked around to stand on my other side.

I smiled happily up at him. “I’m very glad to hear that. It would be most unfortunate for you to get injured right before you planned to leave.”

Now he was scowling. “You heard?”

I nodded. “Triston told me you were giving him a ride to the train station.”

“And you have nothing to say to us?” he asked.

My smile faltered. “I’d planned to see you out of the house and tell you, I wish you good luck and safe travels.”

Branson growled softly, turned, and headed towards the door. “Goodbye, Ember.”

My chest tightened, pain throbbing in the center. “Goodbye, Branson.”

Kieran picked up my hand and gently kissed the back of it. “I’ll never forget you, Ember. Thank you for your care.”

My heart fluttered. “Thank you for your help. I hope you both find what you’re looking for.”

He opened his mouth, shut it, nodded once, and left the room.

A minute later, Triston walked in. For some reason, I could just picture his tail swishing behind him as he walked even though he was in his human form. “Hello,” I greeted. “Thank you for coming to say goodbye.”

He stopped beside my bed and shook his head. “I’m not leaving yet.”

My smile slipped into a frown of confusion. “Oh? You’re going to stay with me longer? Did you get injured last night?”

No one had told me how long I’d been here for sure, but I assumed it was only overnight.

“I was not injured, but you were.” He sat in the chair beside my hospital bed and rested his head on his arms across the siderail. “If it’s alright with you, I’d like to stay and help you figure out the magical rocks mystery.”

I smiled wide as warmth blossomed in my chest, and nodded. “I’d like that very much. Thank you.”

The nurse returned with the healer, so Triston stepped outside to let them treat me. Once fully healed, they unhooked me from the IV and machines and gave me my clothes to change into.

I pulled on my undergarments and pants, but stared at the stabbed and bloody shirt in my hands for several long moments, unable to put it on.

“Here,” Percival said and took his shirt off over his head before handing it to me.

I flinched, not having realized that Percival, Triston, and Riddick were in the room with me, and caused many of the items in the room to shudder from my telekinesis. “Oh, um, thank you.”

“We did knock and ask to enter, but you didn’t reply,” Percival said with a smirk.

“Spacing off on occasion is something I do. Thank you for the shirt.” I tossed my bloodied shirt into the trash and turned to face the three men. “Well, it looks like it’s the four of us for now. Why don’t we get some supplies before we return to the house, so I can make a delicious dinner to thank you all for your help these past few days?”

“Is there a store nearby?” Triston asked as we headed out of the hospital room, down the halls, and out the front automatic doors.

Several people watched us walk by with wide eyes, some in fear and others in disbelief.

Was it because I was one woman with several men, or could they tell what these men were? Or, perhaps it was just seeing Riddick, since he was a very well-known person?

“There’s a store just one block east,” I answered and headed in that direction.

The city was extra busy and noisy today. I wasn’t sure what day of the week it was, they all blended together in the woods when it didn’t matter, but with this much activity I assumed it was a weekend day.
