“I can come with you,” I said. Wasn’t that the whole reason I came with him? To be part of his mission?

He shook his head. “Not this time. I’m going to take Riddick and Triston with me, but you and Branson are going to stay here. My parents will let you stay here until we return. I don’t want you two going to the apartments until we can all go together.”

I put my hands on my hips and glared at him. “I’m not a weak flower, Caleb.”

He smiled, stepped close to me, and put his hand on my cheek, rubbing his thumb over my cheekbone. “I know, Ember, but until our relationship progresses more, I know I’m going to be distracted trying to keep you safe and that could end up causing me to get injured or allowing someone else to get injured. Please, this time, just stay back?”

How could I say no when he was being so open and honest?

“Don’t worry, cub, we’ve got a lot to teach her still,” Rhys said as he joined us on the lawn. “Starting tomorrow, Ember’s going to learn self-defense.”

“I am?” It was a good idea, something I did need to learn more of.

Rhys nodded. “Starting tomorrow, we are going to train you to be the best fighter you can, so Caleb won’t worry so much about you because he’ll know you can take care of yourself. Sound good?”

Yes, yes it definitely did sound good.

“Okay,” I agreed with a nod.

Caleb kissed me lightly and said, “Good girl.”

And just like that, I was putty in the young prince’s hands.

Chapter

Twenty-Five

Apparently training and torture were synonymous to the royals. My entire body hurt and only a long soak in a salt bath eased any of the tension I felt after two days of training.

Deryn, Rhys, Fox, and Leona took turns training me in hand-to-hand combat, magical combat, elven magic, and siren magic. I felt like I wasn’t improving, but they assured me I was.

Branson was also getting training and his improvement was drastically obvious. He’d never been properly trained before, going off instincts alone. Now, he was able to last at least a few seconds against the princes. They even brought over some other shifters from each of their clans, like Deryn’s younger brother, to have them spar.

“I can’t move,” I moaned as I lay on my bed after a long, hot bath.

Branson had knocked a few moments after I’d slid a summer dress Jolie was letting me borrow on. The dresses were easier to get on with such sore muscles. He brought in a healing potion from Kara, which I gulped down before flopping onto my back on the bed.

He lay on his side beside me, smiling wide, and said, “Admit it, you’re having a blast learning so much.”

My lips pursed in annoyance, but I admitted, “Maybe.”

Tracing a fingertip down my arm he said, “I could help take away some of that pain.”

I arched a brow. “How?”

He slid off the bed, walked around to the end, slid his hands up my thighs, and pushed my dress up.

I gasped and heat rushed to my face, embarrassed that he’d caught me without underwear on, and I tried to cross my legs.

He shook his head, gently separated my legs again, and said, “Never hide from me, Ember.” He leaned down and licked me.

Both of us moaned simultaneously, but my moans only grew as he licked me harder and faster. Try as I might, I couldn’t quiet my noises, despite knowing others were in the house who had super hearing.

He slid two fingers inside of me, pumping quickly as he sucked and licked and I felt myself spiraling towards the cliff of an orgasm.

Stars danced across my vision as I orgasmed, my body tensed in bliss, and once the after spasms ceased, I lay in a boneless heap.

“How’s your pain level now?” he asked.
