Jolie chuckled. “This is Ember, she is dating Caleb. Ember, this is Ezio.”

He walked over and held out his hand with a smile. “Nice to meet you, Ember.”

I shook his hand. “Nice to meet you, too.”

“You’re a hybrid?” he asked.

I nodded. “And you’re a werewolf.”

“How could you tell?” he asked.

My brows furrowed. “I’m … not sure. I just could.”

“That’s interesting,” Jolie said. “Could you always tell what someone was when you met them?”

I shook my head. “No.”

“Did you know what he was when you touched him or sooner?” she asked.

Her comment made me realize I was still holding his hand, so I quickly dropped it and stepped back. “I could tell as soon as I walked in.”

“His scent?” Thor asked.

I shook my head. “I don’t have a good sense of smell.”

“I wonder if it has to do with the bond,” she murmured to herself. “I’ll be right back.” She headed through the opposite door, likely to find her mates and this new piece of information.

“How was your training this morning?” Thor asked.

“Good. Leona taught me a bit more about sealing my emotions, keeping them from spreading to others without intent.” Sitting down at the table, I grabbed a croissant, some fruit, and a breakfast sandwich.

“You’re a siren?” Ezio asked, eyes wide.

I nodded, swallowed the bite in my mouth, and said, “Part, anyway.”

“How many more do you think are out there?” he asked Thor. “Do you think there have been some sneaking out of Atlantis?”

Thor shrugged. “Since Brayden’s demise, King Dalton started allowing the sirens to leave Atlantis, so I’m not shocked some left. Being cooped up in one place too long isn’t good for anybody.”

I snorted and both men looked at me. “Sorry,” I mumbled. “Just thinking about myself and how I had holed up in the woods for ten years.”

“Why did you?” Thor asked, obviously curious without a hint of judgment. That was part of why I felt comfortable around him. He wore his emotions on his sleeve.

“Emotional trauma,” I admitted with a shrug of one shoulder. I popped a strawberry in my mouth to end the discussion.

“What about emotional trauma?” Caleb asked as he entered the dining room.

“Nothing,” I said and looked down at my plate of food. Remembering where he had been I asked, “Did you figure anything out or learn anything?”

He sat beside me and leaned towards me.

When he didn’t move closer, I realized he wanted me to meet him part way. Heat flooded my cheeks, but I leaned over and he rewarded me with a dazzling smile and a chaste kiss that somehow still made my toes curl.

“We have a few theories, but magic is magic, and sometimes it does things we can’t explain.”

“Like me knowing what Ezio was at a look,” I whispered.

“Mom thinks that’s because our connection is stronger now that we’re together more and you may be tapping into my ability to do the same.”
