“How are you doing?” I asked. “This is a big change for you as well.”

“It is, but honestly, it feels … right. Being with them and you, it feels like it was meant to happen. You know what I mean?”

I nodded and swallowed hard. “I do.”

We danced for hours until I admitted defeat and went to the bar for water and to rest my legs.

A woman in a gorgeous black dress sauntered up to Caleb. “Good evening, Prince Caleb.” She curtsied, giving an unblocked view of her cleavage.

He barely looked at her. “Constance,” he replied. “I hope you’re enjoying yourself this evening.”

“I would enjoy the night more if you might dance with me,” she said and straightened, a seductive smile on her face.

He took a drink and still didn’t look at her. “Sorry, my dance card is full.”

Her eyes darted to me. “Oh, I see. Perhaps another night.”

“Not likely,” he said. “I hear Larry is looking for a mate still, and he’s not dancing currently. You might try there.”

Her nose scrunched up, but she quickly smoothed her expression, smiled, and curtsied again. “Thank you for your advice, Your Highness.” With a glare at me, she spun and sauntered away.

“If looks could kill,” I whispered with a soft laugh.

“She’s been after Caleb since we were in junior high,” Riddick said. “Just can’t seem to accept he isn’t interested.”

“I think him not even looking at her was pretty indicative of his disinterest,” I said.

“Let’s get out of here,” Caleb said. “We’ve been here long enough.”

“Are you sure?” I asked with a frown and looked around for Jolie or Leona.

“I’m sure,” he said, grabbed my hand, and tugged me towards the exit.

“A picture, Your Highness?” a man with a camera around his neck requested with a smile.

Caleb slid his arm around my waist, tucking me close against him, and nodded. “Of course.”

The man took a picture of us and asked, “Who shall I say is with you?”

“Ember Jasperwood, my girlfriend,” Caleb replied.

“Your g-girlfriend?” the man asked, looking up quickly.

Caleb smiled. “Yes, my girlfriend who I am officially courting.”

The man nodded and scribbled down some notes in a little notepad. “And the gentlemen?”

“My packmates,” he added. “My warrior’s bond brothers, Riddick, Triston, and Branson.”

The man’s eyes widened and he nearly dropped his pen in his shock, but he nodded and wrote down more notes. “Th-Thank you, Your Highness.”

Caleb dragged me out of the ballroom and downstairs to his bedroom there.

“Aren’t we going to the apartments?” I asked, confused.

Branson shut and locked the door as he was the last one to enter.

Caleb shook his head, his chest heaving. “No.” He pulled his tie off and then his jacket. “I don’t have the patience for that.”
