“Why don't you come dance with me?” he said in a slightly less harsh tone.

“Of course.” I accepted that my fiancé led me to the center of the room, and I noticed that people made space for us to pass.

I placed my hands on his shoulders, and he held my waist.

“I'm not good at dancing,” I admitted with a chuckle.

“Me neither. Just move. Two steps one way, two the other. I think that's how we'll cover it up.”

“Good idea, but I imagine you fight well.”

“I train a lot.”

“I think that's enough.”

“Can be.” He paused briefly until his tone of voice changed. “I imagine I'm not exactly what you were expecting.”

“How so?”

“You don't seem as excited about me as your sister is about her fiancé.”

“I'm sorry if I gave any bad impression. I ask you to forgive me.”

“I'm also not the biggest fan of the idea of marrying a woman I don't know, but like me, I imagine you know the obligations we have to the family and the entire mafia.”

“I know... Steven, I don't want you to think that I don't want you.”

“And do you?”

Someone bumped into him, throwing him to the side and making him move away from me and I managed to avoid answering that question.

“Hey!” Steven growled. “Watch where you're going.”

I followed whoever bumped into him with my gaze and I didn't need more than the back, which my hands had already covered enough to recognize him.

Mikhail...

“I need to go to the bathroom,” I told Steven.

“Alright.” He moved away from me and let me pass, following Mikhail down one of the side corridors of the mansion.

I knew it would be difficult to explain that situation to Steven. He seemed to have a good heart and didn't deserve to be deceived, but everything was difficult for me to deal with.

I dodged between the guests and entered the hallway, walking to the bathroom door until I felt Mikhail's hand grab my wrist and pull me inside.

The slamming of the door made the entire wall vibrate, but fortunately it was masked by the sound of music.

I reached out to turn on the switch and found Mikhail with his head down, snorting like a rabid bull.

“Is that what you wanted me to come here for?”

“No!” I gasped my heart breaking with his anger.

“You are mine, Pietra!” He grabbed my hand, pulled out the ring and threw it in some corner of the bathroom.

“Yes, I'm yours.” I reached out with a trembling hand to touch his face.

“I did everything to give you what you want. I hope it's time for you to start giving me what I want.”
