“I shouldn't be flirting with you.”

“I don't think you should be thinking about that.”

“None of us is.”

“I did a lot of things I shouldn't have done, but I'm still okay with it.”

She swallowed hard and I noticed she backed away. My intention wasn't to scare her, but the words came out naturally and it was a little late to take it back.

“I won't harm you.”

“How can I be sure of that?”

“I'm giving you my word.”

“And how much is it worth?”

“Everything,” I said firmly and made her swing again on the other side of the camera.

I didn't want to scare her and miss the opportunity to get closer, so I tried my best to be cautious. I was thirsty for her but showing it might not be the best alternative.

“How old are you?” Her question took me by surprise, but it made me realize that we could be getting a little closer.

“Thirty.”

“You’re younger than I imagined.”

“I'm eleven years older than you.”

“You know my age?” She seemed surprised.

I nodded. I had this information for the mission four years ago, all I needed was do the math.

“You're no older than the guy my dad wants me to marry.”

I gripped the phone tighter and felt my stomach drop. Hearing her say that didn't sit well with me.

“Who does your father want you to marry?”

“The leader of the Sicilians.”

“You can't marry him,” I said firmly and emphatically in an imposing and authoritarian tone that made her retreat.

“It's not up to you to decide that.” She adjusted her posture after speaking. She could just be a girl, but she was too confident or too stupid to consider challenging me.

“For everyone's sake, it's better not to contradict me.”

“Is this a threat?”

“For now, it's just a request.”

She stared at me, still embarrassed and a little suspicious. The distance limited my actions, but it also allowed her to act more naturally, as she believed she was safe.

“Why don't you want me to get married?” Maybe she shouldn't have asked that question, but she asked it anyway.

“I think you already know.”

“No...” she held the air in her lungs and froze her gaze on my image. “I don’t. Tell me.”
