“I want you for me.”

It was the first time I had said it out loud, but I had been sure of it since the time I had crossed paths with her years ago. No other woman had captured my attention and my thoughts as much as she did. If this feeling hadn't lessened in the last four years, it was a sign that it wasn't going away.

“This is crazy!”

“I know you've been thinking about me too, or you wouldn't have recognized me when I got in touch.”

“Yes but...”

I continued to stare at her, waiting for her response.

“My father will never accept this.”

“He's not my concern at the moment.”

“Then, what is it?”

“You. If you want me, we can fix him.”

“We can fix him? No! Oh, God, please don't hurt my father.”

“You Italians care too much about your family.”

“Family is everything!”

“We are everything. We can't count on anyone else but ourselves.”

“I can count on my family, on all of them, I know they would do everything for me.”

“And even so, your father is going to make you marry a man you don't want,” I teased her, making her think about it.

“Who said I don't like him?” She puffed out her chest, slightly irritated.

“Your eyes.”

“But that doesn't mean I like you.”

“No?”

“I need to hang up. Soon someone might come into my room and imagine if they discovered that I was talking to a Russian.”

“Pietra!”

She hung up the call. If it had been any other woman, it would have made me furious enough to want to cut her throat, but with her everything was different from the first moment we looked at each other.

I had already decided who I wanted by my side and that woman was Pietra Bellucci.

Chapter ten

I felt like my heart was going to come out of my mouth and my hands were shaking with the panic that consumed me. I was euphoric and at the same time desperate.

My instincts screamed for me to run to Uncle Mateo and give him my cell phone, saying that a Russian had contacted me, not just anyone, but the boss. Just like my father, he was at the top of the chain. I should have been scared to death, butI couldn't deny the attraction that was driving me towards that man.

At the same time that fear wanted me to run as far away from his reach as possible, desire made me stay and face him.

I kept looking at the cell phone, until I threw it on the bed and placed both hands on my chest, feeling my heart beat faster, as if it were going to tear the skin and jump out.

I grew up knowing that my destiny was already designed, I would marry an ally of my father and strengthen my family. There was no room for love at first sight, for living a fantasy, much less when it included someone so dangerous.
