He grabs three mugs and pours each of us a cup of coffee, handing them out with a smile.

“Now, maybe you can help me figure out how to ask out Kerry,” he says as he takes a seat at the kitchen table.

Lena and I share a look, and both of us let out a relieved laugh as we head to join him. We spend the next hour talking and hanging out. By the time he leaves, I feel lighter and happier than I have in a long time.

“Well,” Lena says as I close the door behind Charlie.

“I know.”

“That didn’t go how I thought it would at all.”

“Me either, but I’m glad he was okay with us. I would have hated to lose him as a friend.”

She smiles, wrapping her arms around my waist, and I wrap my arms around her.

“I love you, Beau.”

“I love you too.”

“I wish we hadn’t wasted so much time,” she sighs, and I nod.

“I was thinking the same thing. At least we’re not still wasting time.”

She nods, resting her head against my chest as we just hold each other.

“What do we do now?” She asks me after a minute, and I smile as my grip on her tightens.

“Now we make up for all that lost time,” I tell her, my voice low and husky.

She smirks up at me and I smile. She takes my hand and leads me back to the bedroom, where we try our hardest to do just that.

Five Years Later…

“I can closeup if you want to leave,” Kerry offers. “I know that it’s your anniversary, and I’m sure Beau has big plans for you two.”

She winks at me, and I laugh as I wipe down the counter.

The two of us still run Grind On together. We’ve even opened a few other locations in the towns that border Wolf Valley. We don’t visit those sites that often. Both of us prefer to stay close to home, especially since we had our kids.

“Are you sure that you don’t mind?” I ask, and she nods.

“We have almost everything done anyway, so it won’t take long.”

“Alright, thanks.”

I give her a hug as I toss the paper towel in the trash and grab my things.

“See you tomorrow!” I call as I head for the door.

“Have fun!”

I smile as I head out to my car. I moved in with Beau a week after we started dating. I know that most people would think that was fast, but we had been in love with each other for over a decade. We didn’t want to waste any more time being apart. Besides, we had been friends for so long before, too, that we already knew each other in and out.

We lived together for a month, and then I walked into the house and was surprised with about a hundred bouquets of roses and Beau kneeling on one knee before me. He proposed to me, with Charlie’s and my parents’ blessings, and I, of course, said yes.
