On the big white square is an artistic rendering of the Luna Park face with a speech bubble emerging from its mouth containing the words, ‘Welcome to Sydney, Jules and Cameron’.
Jules groans and laughs at the same time. ‘It’s terrible.’
‘Hey! I spent hours designing this.’
‘Sorry. I should’ve said, ‘it’s terrible and I love it’.’
Cameron smiles, holding the marshmallow up to her lips. She takes a big bite, feeling bubbly and warm all through her body as the pillowy sugar melts on her tongue.
‘And I love you,’ he says, taking his own smaller bite of the marshmallow, proving his commitment and love for her like he does every day.
They share the treat between them until the sound of a van pulling up out the front of the house interrupts the quiet.
‘Must be the movers.’ Cameron offers her the final bite of marshmallow, and she eats it from his fingers, swirling her tongue around the digits as she does. His caramel eyes flash at her and her heart thumps hard in her chest. ‘Ready?’
His sticky fingers wrap around hers and he squeezes her hand.
