‘She’s got the canvases stretched, ready to go. I was thinking of asking her for a nice Luna Park face.’

Jules fake vomits and Cameron laughs, dropping a kiss on her nose. ‘Let’s bring some stuff in from the car before everyone else arrives.’

They walk out hand in hand, down the few front steps onto the path that curves through a small but meticulous front lawn. Cameron has promised to be responsible for all lawn mowing and other gardening-related activities, because god knows it wouldn’t stay meticulous if Jules were in charge.

The street is quiet, with lots of one-storey houses, a mix of old and newly renovated. Trees line the pathways and there’s a bike path from here all the way into Sydney CBD. Not that Jules will be using that form of transport. She’ll leave that option for Cameron. She’ll take the bus into the city for her new job at McCarthy Media.

Smiling, she grabs several bags and hauls them from the car up the path into the house, heading for the kitchen to start unpacking a few essentials before the moving vans get here, and Cameron’s family and Matteo turn up to help.

‘Remember, crockery in the second draw by the dishwasher,’ Cameron says, dropping a large cardboard box onto the kitchen island.

‘I remember.’

‘Good. But just in case.’ Cameron pulls a folded piece of paper from the back pocket of his jeans, smooths it out, grabs some Blu-tack and sticks it on the window above the sink. It’s a diagram of the kitchen with all the cupboards and drawers labelled.

Jules shakes her head and tugs Cameron over to her by his Spandau Ballet t-shirt. ‘Is this why you wanted the Blu-tack in the essentials boxes?’

‘Hell yeah.’ He grins, dimples pressing into his cheeks.

Jules’s stomach goops around.

‘Come here.’ She cocks her finger and Cameron leans to press his forehead to Jules’s. ‘You’re adorable.’

‘I think the word you’re looking for is ‘cute’.’

Jules presses up and kisses him. Her body tingles all over with excitement. They’re doing this. They’re moving in together. Moving to Sydney. Together.

‘I’m unbelievably happy, did you know?’ she tells him, sliding her hands below his shirt to press against his torso. His abdomen twitches below her hands and a zing shoots down her spine. ‘Moving in with you. Being with you. My new job at McCarthy Media. Your new job.’

‘Mine’s only a temp position.’

‘At Lin & Luther. That’s incredible.’

She runs a finger down from his belly button to the top of his jeans. Cameron’s hands fit to her hips and she slides her mouth by his ear to whisper, ‘Should we go christen our bedroom?’

Cameron hums. ‘Tempting. But maybe we should wait until we have a bed in there?’

Jules pouts, withdrawing her hands from below his shirt. ‘You’re no fun.’

‘I’m plenty fun, but my whole family will be here soon. You know how they are with arriving early everywhere.’

It’s been a minor argument between Jules and Cameron through their relationship so far. Jules a firm believer that on time is anywhere from the designated arrival time to 30 minutes after, Cameron believing early equals on time. It’s obviously an inherited trait since whenever they’ve caught up with his parents or sisters when they were driving up to Sydney on weekends to look at places, they were always the last to arrive.

‘But I packed something else in here for the occasion. It probably won’t be as good as sex with me—’

Jules elbows him in the side.

‘—but I think you’ll like it.’

Cameron rummages through the cardboard moving box, pulling out a Bluetooth speaker, a kettle, and a box of tissues before he unearths an unmarked white cake box which he places on the kitchen bench between them.

‘Ooh. Fancy.’ Jules sidles up and presses into his side.

He slowly opens the lid, humming a suspenseful melody which crescendos into a loud, ‘Ta-da!’ as the lid is flipped back.

Jules gasps. ‘Giant marshmallows! Yes! And—hang on.’ She peers into the box. ‘Did you get these custom made?’

Cameron pulls one out and holds it up. ‘Sure did.’
