I try to swallow around the lump in my throat, but I can’t, so I nod and place my hand in the crook of his elbow. I may have lost my own parents in this whole thing, but I gained a wonderful set in my mating. The moon hangs high in the sky, reminding me of Seluna’s blessing on this mating, that she picked Eli especially for me. He is standing tall in a dark-blue suit with a gray button-down and tie. The suit barely contains his muscles that ripple as he moves slightly to stand comfortably; he is so sexy. His hazel eyes bore into mine, showing his deep love for me, his messy hair slicked back for this momentous occasion. Brad hands me off to Eli, kissing the top of my head, a sweet, fatherly gesture. Eli holds both my hands and pulls me closer, the bond very much alive and well, pulling us together.

“You are stunning, my lilac.”

“You are so sexy, Eli.”

A slight growl leaves his throat that only I can hear. “Don’t tempt me, my lilac. I will mark you right here if you are not careful.”

A shiver passes through me as I smirk at his playful demeanor. Wilson starts the ceremony; much like a human wedding, we commit ourselves to each other and recognize that Seluna blessed this mating. The Luna ceremony comes afterward, which is just me vowing to serve the Twilight Meadows pack. After the ceremonies are finished, we all gather to eat and party together. Darlene and Brad take Maddie to their home and will be keeping her for a few days so Eli and I can spend uninterrupted time together. I'm just about to grab another drink when I see Niam standing off to the side.

“Hi Niam. How are you doing?”

“I’m good. Finally got my portion of the pack lands sorted and started building a house there.”

“That’s amazing! I can’t wait to see it.”

“Quinn, I don’t know if I ever properly thanked you for talking some sense into me that night.”

“Don’t worry about it, Niam. Our emotions can make us do a lot of crazy things. For me, it was fear; for you, it was grief.”

“Still…I’m not sure where I would be if you hadn’t. Thank you, you’re going to make a great Luna.”

I smile at him because I don’t know what else to say. It is kind he thinks so. Making my way back over to the large bonfire, I see Paige dancing with her brother. I would never have guessed he even knew how to move to music; he barely smiles or does anything exuberant; he’s more of a get-the-job-done and move-on kind of person. But I guess Paige brings a different side of him out; she does that to a lot of people, I think. Paige spots me as I come closer and says something to Thorn before rushing over to me.

“Well damn, your pack knows how to throw a party! Ha.”

“Or you just know how to make a party. I think your energy is infecting others. I would never have believed your brother knew how to dance if I hadn’t witnessed it myself.”

She looks over at Thorn, whose face is closed off again, and he sips on his whiskey.

“There is a lot about him that he doesn’t show to many people. But to me, he has always been my fun-loving brother, always protecting and fighting for me…even if it costs him everything.” The sadness in her voice is evident. The story she has yet to tell me seems to include her brother, and whatever it is, it wasn’t easy, and they are still dealing with it. She will tell me in time what happened, and maybe one day I can help her like she helped me.

“So you head out tomorrow, back to your job at the hospital.”

“Yup! Honestly, I can’t wait. I miss all those old ladies! They have got the best gossip, and they make me laugh. There is something so wholesome about their love for life and energy at such an old age. Truly inspiring.”

“Well, you are required to call often and visit often!”

“I will. You can’t get rid of me even if you tried.”

“Wouldn’t dream of it.” I give her a tight hug and go to find my mate. Eli is talking to Dominic and Dean. Dean just recently returned from an assignment with the council, apparently part of his punishment for leaving Maddie and me alone. He seems pretty happy, though, so that’s at least good. I wonder when Eli will reinstate him, or maybe he won’t.

“What are you boys talking about? Not pack business, I hope.” Eli turns and wraps his arms around me.

“Nah, not us.” I snort at that because, of course, they were talking pack business.

“Sure, sure.”

“You ready to get out of here, my lilac?” he looks at me like he is going to eat me up, and heat rises to my cheeks.

“Yes.” He leans down, nuzzling my neck, kissing all the way up to my jaw and back. He licks the spot on my neck that I know he will mark later tonight, forcing me to grip his suit jacket and pull him closer. He hums his agreement as he lifts his head to look at me. Dean and Dominic left at some point, which is good because that would be horribly embarrassing. Eli leads me out front and to our SUV. A short drive later, we pull into the driveway of our home.

“Wait there.” Eli hops out of the SUV and comes around to my side. He opens the door, unbuckles me, and carries me into the house bridal style. He wastes no time, climbing the stairs two at a time, getting up to our room in record time. He tosses me onto the bed and climbs on top of me, pushing himself between my legs. My body reacts in excitement as he leans down to kiss me. His tongue explores my mouth like a man starved. I can’t help moaning into his mouth as he starts to undress me.

“Let’s get you out of this,” he growls deeply. I can’t help myself from giggling as he tries his best to navigate the buttons that are keeping my body hostage from him. One by one, he begins popping each button off with his teeth.

“Sorry, lilac,” he looks up with a mischievous grin, ripping the final one-off, letting his hands explore my still-hidden breaths, “I don’t have the time to wait!”

With a breathtaking force, he pulls the bodice away, the dress now in two equal and unnecessary parts.
