We have had to refer some of our members to a therapist-—luckily, there is a local one who knows about shifters—because the pain runs deep. I thought working on my own shit was tough; I never imagined having to try and help others with their trauma.

Turning the shower off, I step out, wrapping a nice, fluffy gray towel around me. I don’t know where they got these towels, but they are divine—I’m going to need to buy one.

My phone rings on the counter; walking over, I see Quinn's name flash on the screen. I have no sense of modesty, so I answer the video call and prop my phone up on the mirror ledge while I get ready for the day.

"I feel like a whale." Quinn is sprawled out on her bed with a bowl propped up in her belly full of marshmellow cereal.

"How's the cereal?" Another spoonful enters her mouth, and just as she is finished chewing, she takes a bite of a pickle. "Ugh, that looks disgusting." My stomach turns, and I can't control the revulsion that comes over me. I race to the toilet and throw up the little contents of my stomach. Oh my…my head is spinning slightly, but I manage to stand up and walk back to the counter. Turning on the tap, I cup my hands under the running tap. scooping the water up, I rinse out my mouth and drink down the cool liquid. I am not feeling good. Straightening back up, I look at Quinn on the phone, and she is grinning from ear to ear.

"It's happening!!!!" I can't help but snort at her excitement. "Have you taken a test yet? I mean, I knew you were pregnant, but the whole experience of seeing it on the stick is so surreal!"

"No, I haven't, but I bought one just in case." I pull open the drawer and find the package I hid in there a couple of days ago. I thought it was still too early, but if I'm throwing up, maybe it's not too soon. Or I have the flu—but shifters don't get the flu.

"Okay, fine, I'll take the test later."

"No, you have to right now! Sit on that toilet and pee on that stick."

"You have gotten way more bossy the further a long in your pregnancy you are."

"That's what Eli says, too."

Five minutes later I am staring down at the pregnancy test.

"I'm pregnant," I whisper to myself. I knew Quinn said I was going to be pregnant at her baby's birth, but it's real, I'm pregnant. My eyes fill with tears as I look at my best friend. "I'm pregnant."

She starts jumping up and down in excitement, which you would think would be difficult sitting on a bed with a bowl full of cereal on your belly, but she manages.

"This is so exciting!!! I can't wait to be an auntie!!! Oh my gosh!!!"

I need to tell Liam. I know we have talked about it being real, and he has been so careful with what I eat and do even though we haven’t had anything confirmed yet, but this is real evidence that I am carrying our baby. After the chaotic day that was the Alpha fight, Liam took me to the hospital to make sure I was okay. Of course they couldn’t tell if I was pregnant then, but Liam wanted to make sure I was otherwise fine. I had minor bruising around my neck after Arthur had grabbed me, but as a shifter, I heal quickly.

"I need to go, Quinn, I'm sorry. Can I call you back?"

"Of course you can! You need to buy soda crackers and peppermint tea; it will help with the nausea." As she says it, my stomach turns again, but I take shallow breaths to control the reflex. Shit, this better not last the whole pregnancy.

"Yep, okay, will do."

I go back into the room and find some tights and a baggy sweater. I was going to try and look nicer, but I need to find Liam. So, hair on top of my head, dressed in tights and a sweater, out I go in search of my mate.

Descending the stairs in the pack house, I see a few people wandering about. Everyone is polite and says hi like usual. I make it to Liam's office at the front of the house, knocking on the door to let him know I'm here before I open the door and step in.

He looks up, and the smile that he gives me makes butterflies take flight in my stomach. This man is so handsome and wonderful, I can’t believe he is my mate. He stands up from the desk and comes straight toward me.

"Good morning, sunshine. How did you sleep?"

"Really good, though I missed you this morning. You must have been up for a while; the bed was cold." I lean into his chest and take a whiff of his scent. It always calms me.

"Sorry. I got a message that the council wanted to talk later today about some of the people arrested at the challenge. I couldn't fall back asleep, so I got up to use the time more efficiently rather than stare at the ceiling."

"I understand." I lean up and kiss him, because why the hell not? "Um, so I did something this morning."

Looking down at me, he raises his eyebrow, encouraging me to go on.

"Here." I pull the test out of my sweater pocket. It's one of those fancy ones with a nice case, and instead of the lines, it says pregnant or not. He holds the test in his hand and stares at it for a long time. At first, I think he might be frozen, or maybe mad that I'm actually pregnant, but when he looks up, all my fears fade away.

He wraps his arms around me and picks me up off the ground, swinging me around while I hold on to him for dear life. Finally setting me on my feet, he kisses me passionately, making me moan into his mouth. Pulling away from him, breathing heavily, I look up at him, smiling.

"So you're happy?"
