Michael’s fingers wrapped around his and he tugged Jackson backward. Jackson dropped to the couch before he had a lapful of Michael and the blanket.

“Hey, Michael, hey, Jackson,” Sammy said as he left Creed standing with Mac and strode forward. He crouched in front of them.

“Hey,” Michael greeted. “You didn’t have to come all the way down here for me.”

Sammy shrugged. “I was headed home anyway so it’s no big deal. Jayme was really worried and although Lance tried to tell him you were alright, we figured you wouldn’t mind if I stopped by.”

“It’s always nice to see you. I’m fine. Really. I feel better after talking to Jackson.”

Sammy glanced at him and smiled before returning his attention to Michael. “It does help to have someone to talk to.”

Michael nodded. “I didn’t want to hurt that guy, but he was going to attack Daddy or Jackson. It’s okay though. The cops are going to take him away and make sure he gets the help he needs.”

“Al…alright,” Sammy said. “You didn’t get hit or anything, right?”

“No. I hit him with a chair. A little chair. I think I broke it. Maybe?”

“It’s fine,” Jackson assured him. “We’ll buy the club a new one if it’s damaged. No one will ever know.”

“Maybe replace it anyway? It might have bad mojo.”

Sammy laughed. “I’m with Michael on this one. Maybe frame a piece of the chair to show his bravery but keep it out of the playroom.”

“I wasn’t brave,” Michael said. “Everyone keeps telling me that, but I was scared. I wasn’t even thinking straight. I just didn’t want Daddy or Jackson hurt.”

Creed cleared his throat as he stepped forward. “It’s okay to be scared. That’s what made what you did special. You protected your men. Our friends. Thank you.”

Michael beamed and Jackson could have kissed Creed. If it wouldn’t have gotten him punched. And maybe his eyes gouged out by Sammy for even thinking about it. He hugged Michael tight. “See? There’s nothing for you to feel guilty or bad about.”

Samm patted Michael’s knee. “I think you’ll be fine. You have Jackson and I know Finn is chomping at the bit to get up here to you. But call me if you need to. We need to do a playdate soon.”

“We should!” Michael perked up. “That would be great.”

“I’ll put Jayme in charge. You know Lance can’t tell him no.” Sammy rose, and Creed immediately took his hand.

Creed and Mac nodded at him before they left the room, closing the door behind them.

“I really do feel better,” Michael told him.

“I’m happy to hear that.” Jackson wished he did.

Chapter Seventeen

Finn

Rolling over in bed, Finn wasn’t surprised to see that Michael and he were alone. Jackson had been jumpy all night. Finn had tried to talk to him, but Michael had been extra needy, and Jackson had waited on their baby constantly until Michael finally drifted off to sleep.

Finn made sure the covers were up high around Michael’s shoulders before he slipped out of bed. Finn didn’t know where Jackson would have gone. Unless he stole the bike keys from Finn’s desk, Jackson wouldn’t have a ride either. Finn snatched his phone off the nightstand charger in case he needed to call in reinforcements. Not that Finn looked forward to turning to Jackson’s friends for help.

Finn didn’t bother to turn on any lights as he exited the bedroom and closed the door. He used his phone to light the way.

Halfway through the room, he spotted the lone figure sitting next to the window with his arms around his knees. Finn sighed in relief. Jackson hadn’t run. Honestly, after the emotional night, Finn wouldn’t have even blamed Jackson. He would have gone after him. Reminded Jackson who he belonged to. But Finn would have understood.

Still naked, shivering, Jackson didn’t look at Finn as Finn approached. He laid his hand on Jackson’s knee, shocked by how cold Jackson was. Cursing under his breath, Finn grabbed the blanket off the back of the couch before throwing it over Jackson.

Slowly, as if he was in a daze, Jackson turned his head. The moonlight shining through the window highlighted the bleak look in his eyes.

“I didn’t run,” Jackson said hoarsely.
