“I have no idea,” I replied, swallowing down a heavy lump in my throat. “I have no idea what’s normal or not for an omega. I was a freaking beta—other than basic alpha and omega anatomy and impulses in my freshman designation class, we weren’t taught much.”

Crew winced. “Calla had my mom, and my mom had my grandmother to help explain shit. And I know Calla worked with a designation tutor for a year to help prepare her for what would happen.”

“We can find you a tutor,” Rhett offered.

“Or my mom and Calla can come here,” Crew added. “Pops had to fly back, but my other dads and mom rented a townhouse in Billings to stay close in case we needed them. Calla stayed, too.”

“They did?” I lifted my chin to look him in the eye.

Crew framed my face with his large, rough hands. “Of course they did, little one. They love you and know you’ll need support. You have an entire army of people who want to help you.”

Because you’re weak and needy. A pathetic omega.

I was getting really tired of that insidious voice creeping around in my brain.

“What was that?” Kellan caught my chin and wrenched my head around to look at him. His scowl caught me by surprise.

I forced my expression to be blank. “I didn’t say anything.”

“No, but your face said enough.” The hard edge in his tone wasn’t something I was used to. Kellan was my big, burly teddy bear. But right now I was getting a look at the FBI agent who was equal parts lethal and alpha.

Sighing, I tried to brush it off. “It’s nothing. Really.”

“We’ll be the judges of that,” Rhett said in a mild tone, wrapping an arm around Jude, waiting expectantly for my response.

I looked down at my lap, twisting my hands together until my knuckles cracked.

Crew covered my hands with one massive palm. “Enough.”

My fingers instantly stopped. A heavy breath hissed from my lungs, my shoulders deflating. “I hate being this needy and weak,” I admitted.

A series of snarls and growls ripped through the room, and my head snapped up as Crew grabbed me by the waist and yanked me forward so I was straddling his lap with my chest pressed to his.

His blue eyes sparked with annoyance. “Listen to me, little omega,” he demanded in a rough rasp that made my core clench. A hand came up to grasp the back of my neck, the touch dominant and controlling, yet tender. “You are not needy or weak.”

I opened my mouth to argue, but Jude cut me off. “He’s right, Haze. You’re so much stronger than you’re giving yourself credit for. I can’t imagine how you’re feeling, but I know this has to be a lot. We all wish there were time to take this slower, to court you like a proper pack and show you how precious you are?—”

“Which we plan to do as soon as your heat relents,” Rhett cut in, with a heated look that made my toes curl.

Jude’s lips twisted into a smile. “Absolutely. For right now, though, it’s probably best to just let yourself feel how you feel. I promise no one here will judge you.”

“Give yourself a break, sugar,” Kellan murmured, rubbing slow circles on my back.

I let my forehead drop onto Crew’s shoulder, inhaling all of their scents and letting my frayed nerves settle. I focused on the pack’s combined smell, picking out their individual notes as well as the way they mingled together to create one perfect scent that I could only describe as mine.

The soft material of Crew’s worn tee was too tempting, and I surrendered to the overwhelming urge to rub my cheek against the cotton and wrap my arms around his wide shoulders.

A thrumming purr vibrated in his chest, settling the last of my unease as my eyes closed.

“Good girl,” Rhett praised, and I soaked it up like sunlight.

Loud chimes coming from multiple phones shattered the momentary peace. I jerked in Crew’s arms, my eyes wide as I looked around.

“What the fuck?” Kellan snarled, climbing to his feet.

Crew stiffened under me, his frame coiled with tension as he passed me over to a silent Jude.

Rhett had pulled his phone from his pocket and was scowling at the screen. “It’s Martin. He’s at the front gate.”
