Unless someone mentioned Jude.

I would never be okay with someone thinking, or insinuating, that my relationship with Jude was something to be ashamed of.

Jude had more courage, heart, and raw power than most of the alphas I knew. His designation didn’t make him less of a man, and it pissed me the fuck off when men like Martin alluded that it did.

“You’ll all be on administrative leave until we can sort this out,” Martin snapped. “And Agent Morris will need to pass all physical and psychological assessments before he’s cleared to return to the field.”

Crew nodded, a muscle in his jaw flexing. “Of course.”

“You’ll all be required to give formal statements to an internal review board,” Martin added. “The office will be in touch to schedule those in the coming days.”

Crew cleared his throat. “We may be unavailable.”

Martin scoffed. “Planning a vacation, Dutton? Or do you need a few days with your new omega toy?”

Kellan rocked back on his heels, looking furious and barely holding his tongue.

“Our omega’s heat cycle was interrupted during her captivity,” Crew replied, his tone even as he spoke. “We’ll be taking heat leave to make sure she’s all right.”

Heat leave was a mandatory benefit afforded all packs with an omega, giving packs up to a week of time off to help an omega through their heat. I’d filed the formal paperwork with human resources before we’d left the hospital.

Martin smirked. “Judging by the smell, you boys are in for a hell of a week. I’ll expect to see you all in the office once her heat is over. I’m assuming you all know how to knot an omega properly? Or should I show you how it’s done?”

Kellan let out a roar and lunged forward. I jumped in his path, barely catching him before he could land a punch on Martin. Crew shoved Kellan back a step.

“Get upstairs and check on Hazel,” he barked, the command clear.

Snarling like a feral beast, he whirled and stormed away, punching the wall as he went. The drywall shattered in a shower of plaster and paint.

With a bellowing laugh, Martin pulled open the front door. “That boy definitely needs a good rut. Convenient that your pack has three alphas. You each get a hole.”

I gritted my teeth, swallowing back a comment as I exchanged a look with Crew.

Crew’s expression was arctic. “We’ll contact HR when our omega is done. For now, it’s probably best that you go.”

Martin was still laughing as I stepped forward and slammed the door on his retreating back. I stayed put, watching him get in his car and drive away, then I switched to watching him on my phone through the security cameras. As soon as his car—a brand new Jaguar—cleared the gates, I pressed a button to lock the compound down.

Once I got confirmation he was gone and our pack was alone, I exhaled and turned.

Crew was still behind me, a darkly contemplative look on his face.

“What?” I asked.

His gaze jerked to me. “This could be a problem.”

“I’m aware,” I murmured, rubbing the back of my neck. “But we knew there would be consequences to acting without his permission.”

“It’s more than that,” Crew admitted, frowning. “It’s not the job I’m worried about. It’s Hazel.”

I cocked my head, waiting for him to elaborate, though I suspected I knew what he was about to say next.

“I know it’s all new, but I’m not letting her go.”

“None of us are,” I confirmed. “We’re a pack, and we all want her. We’re fucking scent matches.”

Crew met my gaze. “No, I mean I’m willing to walk away from the bureau right now if it means keeping Hazel with us.”

I let his words sink in, absorbing their meaning. “And do what?”
