“I just don’t know why your parents didn’t agree to be exiled,” he said. “I can’t imagine letting my own child be forced into a mating with an abusive male just so I could stay in my home and on the council.”

“I don’t know why either, but since they were also imprisoned with her, I suspect that they were threatened with more than Alanah and I were ever told. At least she’s safe now.”

He kept his mouth shut about Alanah’s plan to go back to the commune and find their parents. He’d let her talk to her sister about that.

“So the reason I wanted to talk to you is that she could use some clothes,” he said.

“Oh, of course. I’ll send some things of mine over right away, and tomorrow you can take her shopping. There’s a nice mall not too far from here.”

“That would be awesome.”

“Do you have clothes?”

“Sylas was going to grab our things from the RV.”

“Okay. If you need anything else, let me know.”

“Thanks.”

The call ended and he picked up his cell to call his brother when there was a knock on the door. He opened it and found Sylas and Taryn in the hall.

“Here you go,” Sylas said, handing over two duffels.

“Thanks guys,” he said.

“How’s Alanah?” Taryn asked.

“Tired, but much better now.”

“I’m glad,” she said. “The rooms here are awesome. They’re like apartments but it’s a hotel, it’s wild.”

“And the food’s good too,” Sylas said.

Ronan agreed. “I’ll see you guys at lunch tomorrow. We’ll meet in the hotel’s restaurant at one.”

“You got it,” Sylas said.

“Rest well,” Taryn said.

His family left, and he heard footsteps and leaned out the door to see Serena and Galen walking toward him. She had a stack of clothes in her hand, which she gave to him.

“She probably doesn’t have any money,” Serena said. “We have accounts at the shops there, you can just use my name.”

“I have money to provide for my mate,” he said, “but thanks for the offer.”

Galen gave him a curious look. “Do you guys really want to fight for the NWFA?”

Ronan shrugged. “Normally we find work with security companies in whatever area we’re in. Sylas and I can both fight well and I don’t think he’d mind the fighting, but if I could do something other than punch someone for a job, I’d be game for it. Why?”

“Alaric would like to get you work here at the hotel if you’re interested. We’d have to deal with Jonathon and make some concessions for the work he’s put in to bring you here. Like you might need to fight in an exhibition match or something. Alaric asked me to check with you and make sure you’re not gung ho about working at the fights.”

“None of us are,” he said. “It was a means to an end to travel easier from state to state.”

“I hear you,” he said with a nod. “It’s why we joined up with him. We put in our contracts that we’d only fight until we found our truemates, so we weren’t tied to him for longer than necessary. I’ll let Alaric know. We can talk about it tomorrow.”

“Thanks,” he said.

He said goodbye to Alanah’s family—which was his family now too—and closed the door. Carrying the clothing into the bedroom, he knocked on the door. “Your sister brought some clothes for you, where do you want me to put them?”
